Conference Tourney week.

For teams already locked into the tourney, it doesn't mean a ton except maybe for seeding.
It is still a chance for a team possibly on the outside to break into the big dance

That's exactly what St Mary's did earlier this week by winning the West Coast Conf Tourney in a upset over #1 ranked Gonzaga.
It had no affect on the Zags--who will still get a #1 seed, but it took a spot from someone else.

In other news, it looks like Player of the Year, Zion Williamson, will be re-joining Duke for the ACC tourney. If Duke gets back up to speed, they (unfortunately) become a national title front-runner.

Yea, conference tourney week is really just a bad deal for top seeds.
Like Virginia last year you go all out and win it then use up a lot of gas and emotion, enter tourney flat.

I am hoping Tech loses early then sits back and awaits their 2 or 3 seed.
Let a bubble team win the thing.

Yep

Ex. I think the last 3 times UNC won it all, they lost in the ACC tourney.

I think Tech may have lost too early.

Oh aell, theyll be rested.

Zion is playing like the best player in the country right now after sitting out more than a month. Duke is going to be tough to beat.

Theres no way the NCAA will do it, but if Kentucky loses and Duke beats UNC tomorrow, there would be a real argument for three #1 seeds out of the ACC.

But the NCAA wont do it, so its a moot point

UVa has been great. Always great D, but this team can really shoot it.
UNC is radically better than early this year and, as Bilas says, might be playing better than anyone.
Now with Zion is back, Duke might be better than everyone

Heckuva 4/5 ga,e between #12 FSU and #15 Va Tech too.

Roy’s UNC teams always seem to play better later in the season. He will play a lot of players and different lineups before ACC schedule and even duroearly part of ACC. He is really good at developing a bench.

First time three teams in the top 5 will play in the same conference's semifinals.

Tech had already beaten them twice so doubt it moves the needle.
I'd def rather be a 3 seed with a few less games wear and tear.

Committee is very diff from football version so who knows what'll happen.
Tech is coming off an Elite 8, has a top 10 Lotto pick and is a co-champ of a P5.
This is exactly what I wanted given how often early conf loss teams advance fair in the tourney.

My goal is sweet 16 again and anything more would be gravy.
Tech has its best recruiting class in school history coming on next year.
Beard has these guys rolling but it was supposed to be a rebuilding year and they were picked 7th preseason in Big 12.

UNC/Duke will be interesting tonight.
If Duke wins big it kinda puts a large damper on UNC who as you know I think has been overrated.
But ultimately the winner doesn't really get much out of it. Both teams are going to be high seeds and beating their heads against brick walls to prove anything this tourney is probably unwise.

There's only one touurney that matters in NCAA basketball.

Yep, the arrow is up for Tech. It is probably a 3 seed.

As for Carolina/Duke....pretty much ALL of the incentive goes to Duke. They are pumped out of their minds for revenge. Hard to beat any team 3 times, and especially one that just added the best player in the nation and has blood in their eyes. Not much upside for UNC tonight.

And then after that, the winner (barring an FSU upset) gets to play the best UVa team since the Samson era on night later.
Like you say, the real winner tonight might the team that loses.

Duke wins a see-saw game 74-73 over Carolina

Tar Heels missed SO many open 3s...including a wide open one with 12 seconds left. Normally great shooting 3s, but were 4 of 27...amazing it went down to the last shot. Manly b/c they don't need to 3 to be strong anyway.
Zion Williamson is a monster.
Great game.

Not only that, but Florida State upset Virginia.

Gonna a wild NCAA tourney

Zion easily makes Duke the favorite now. Can FSU win the ACC to make it five different champions the last 5 years? ACC tourney is always tough.

Is the committee is going to make Duke or UNC a #1 seed? I would lean towards Duke but you could go either way. I wonder if jterrell still thinks UNC is overrated.

Heck of a ball game. UNC probably had their worst shooting game of the year, missed a lot of open looks and took some bad ones. The 5th foul on Garrison Brooks should have been an offensive foul on Zion (that’s not gonna happen) or a no call. If Duke loses tonight who gets the 1 seed, them or UNC? UNC finished higher in ACC regular season and beat duke twice.

amazing stat. Speaks to the insane quality at the top of the league, and to the overall competitiveness.
Hope it happens

Regardless of what happens in the Big Ten final, now that Michigan State is finally fully healthy again, I think they are also a true contender.

There are two primarily one and done programs in the nation
Kentucky and Duke

I'd prefer neither win the national championship..

I know, good luck with that:laugh:

The conference tourney upsets continue
Auburn wins the SEC Tourney, beating #8 Tennessee, who beat #4 Kentucky a day earlier.

Could the ACC have THREE #1 seeds?
Seeing that 4 of the top 5 ranked teams lost in their tourneys, I think if #6 Michigan State can beat #10 Michigan in the Big Ten final today, they may get that 4th #1 seed ahead of UNC or Gonzaga

Virginia and Duke are locks
the final two #1 seeds will go to two of Gonzaga, UNC, Michigan State.
