His father, Grove Covington, played in the Canadian Football League (CFL) for 11 seasons, racking up a record 157.0 career sacks on his way to being elected into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame.

The junior Covington was a sixth-round selection out of Rice by the Houston Texans in 2015. Playing alongside the likes of defensive monsters in J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney, Christian has been a versatile rotational piece for the Texans, with the ability to play any position along the line.

This is the best DT we've signed in a very long time. By all reports he's a capable, reliable rotation guy at the 1 and 3. Who was our last "noteworthy" DT signing, McClain? I guess someone will bring up the D. Irving acquisition but a lot of good that's done us in the long run, however talented he is.

Plus, look at that beautiful, beautiful contract. Heavily incentivized and cheap as hell at max value for the production required to obtain it.

No he's not a top 3 DT at 10M/YR but he's a young contributor with potential at a position of need for a great price.
