In a 4-3, Taco projects best at LDE, the Anchor, which oh by the way is manned by one Tank Lawrence.

Watt's best 4-3 spot is at RDE, the Rush, which is exactly what we needed (still need).

Draft debates and mistakes happen all the time and will continue to happen. I just hate the logic they used in this particular decision.

If you saw the video when they made the selection Jerry emphasizes to Taco how much Garrett wanted him and how hard he was campaigning for him.

I've never heard Jerry say that to another player.

Who knows what goes on in that circus of a war room.

True about the circus of a war room but OTOH you can't take JJ's word about anything. He says all sorts of BS that isn't remotely true. As for those pining for Truck Stop Fabio (Winovich) was COMPLETELY neutralized by most of the decent Tackles he played against. O$U's tackles destroyed him.

Yep which produced the same results it always has the last decade plus which is vastly overrated because of regular season success. And mince meat in the playoffs.

Turns out, you need pretty good teams to get to those championship games.

well that and KR was in his first year and there was a huge improvement in the secondary and overall defensive play. i believe KR took over play calling too. so this is a rod thing.

This totally is a Rod thing. I don't get how anyone blames Kris Richard for the defensive line getting shredded when he had no input in the personnel he was asked to coach and that includes the severely undersized guys we have playing at the defensive tackles.

Turns out they have to better than pretty good to win those games. If you're okay with the same bad ending to seasons we're guaranteed and being a glutton for punishment then be my guest. I am tired for the 'Boys being the NFL's Murphy's Law team.

You say you're tired, but yet you advocate doing the same old thing we've been doing since Jimmy quit and are trying to tell me that's the solution for getting over the hump. I'm the one saying we ought to be more honest with what the issues actually are, and at least be talking about changing the things that are getting in the way of getting back to a championship game.

But I guess if you're ok with the same endings to seasons we've been seeing the last two decades, I won't be able to change your mind, will I?

McClay really liked TJ that year. The coaches (Rod) thought Taco would be a better fit because he played with his hand in the dirt in college, whereas Watt was more of a projection since he mostly rushed the passer while standing.

Imagine where this defense would be if we had Watt at RE. Rod gotta go.

I thought Rod should have been fired years ago.

I recently read scouting reports from walter football on Randy Gregory and demarcus lawerence which said that both lawerence and Gregory were better suited to play outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.Gregory's scouting report specifically said he would likely need to gain weight to successfully transition to the nfl. Honestly I don't understand why the cowboys chose taco over tj watt. Hopefully
Taco really improves this year

I'm curious. What do you think the main underlying issues are with the cowboys?

Has Watt proved he could play with his hand on the ground? He plays OLB still. Just because he does it in the 3-4 doesnt mean he could do it in the 4-3. Ware couldnt do it in the 4-3 either.

I'm curious. What do you think the main underlying issues are with the cowboys?

To start, I think we’re a lot closer than most people think. We need to be slightly more agressive in VFA. Dak needs to take the next sep forward. And Jerry needs to back off with the undermining of his coaches, injecting distractions in the middle of the season, and he needs to stop the open door policy of letting players and coaches come to him directly when they’d not happy. Like he just did again this offseason about the offensive design. Just get out of the way.

Taco was one of my favorites in that draft.
loved his size...and attitude at Michigan.
but something is different...and Im not gonna defend this pick any more.
time for Taco to get up....or get out.
Your Edge rushes are only as good as your defensive tackles. If you can't put pressure on the quarterback up the middle your Edge rushers just can't get there. All the quarterback needs to do is Step Up. They have to help each other but I think everybody knows that. If you can't get pressure up the middle you can't win in this league

It's all hindsight. Takes three seasons. To get a true perspective on your draft picks. Although every once in awhile there is a standout.

Defensive tackle strong safety. And some good backup rotational players. Prescott I believe he needs the most work at his intermediate pass. Over the linebacker before the corner. For him it's all about confidence and he seems to be gaining that. Youngest starting team in the league third-youngest overall. I like what I'm seeing going forward

I have never understood the admiration and praise that fans give Marinelli. His schemes are outdated and he has not developed any of the DL. His stubborn attitude has hurt the development of the defense on more than one occasion. His refusal to value the 1tech position has hurt the team every year. He is not a miracle DL guru like many posters on this board claims that he is and his departure is long overdue.
