It will in no way handcuff this team. He's not going to get $20 million each year. The contract will be staggered amounts with restructures built into it.

For example, Zack Martin got a six-year, $84 million contract last year. His cap hit his first year was $6 million. It is set to be $14 million this year, but Dallas could restructure if it needed cap space. It could do the same the next year or the year after that. As you get closer to the end of the contract, the cost to keep him becomes greater than the cost to cut him, so you can get out of the contract and save money against the cap, even if you restructured at some point. If Martin's play is still at a high level near the end of the contract, then you can restructure completely and start over again with a lower cap hit at the beginning of the new deal, money that can be pushed down the line with a built-in restructure that opens cap space and then the eventuality that the cost to cut him is less than the cost to keep him.
Restructuring contracts is what has hamstrung this team over a decade. While we do need to first see the amount of guaranteed money and the payout structure of DLaw's contract year to year, restructuring these deals and kicking guaranteed money down the road is more times than not a bad idea.

Aren’t we going to save some money on Gregory and Irving this year ? Surely we can justify over paying Lawrence a couple million.

If we’re smart we can save it on not over paying Dak.
we only save around 300k with RGregory suspended

That's your opinion. I don't see it that way at all. This front office doesn't need defending, they are doing just fine. I refuse to be held hostage by a player that's decide to weaponize his injury in negotiations. Giving into that tactic is just weak.
He’s has us over a barrel because of our other poor decisions which risk failed.

Let him walk but don’t come complaining later why our defense can’t get pressure on the QB and defense isn’t top 10 anymore.

All for a couple million.

I would love for Tank to stay, but damn that's a big number. I still have bad memories of the Cowboys paying guys top dollar, and then watching said players underachieve. I hope he's worth it.

I think the money is ludicrous, but it is funny how the great majority of people side with the Cowboys, aka the "boss". Fact is each of us would try to get as much as we could if we were in his shoes.

I root for both sides at times, but ultimately will side with the Cowboys, as I'm a fan of the team, and not specific players.

D-Law will come and go like other good to great DE's we've had over the years.

I don't blame D-Law for asking for the moon, as he is part of an elite % of players and deserves to be paid as such. But at the same time I hope the Cowboys get a good deal on their end so they can theoretically stay competitive re-signing their own and possible adding in the future.

I'm not one of the ones freaking out about no deal yet either, fwiw.

Ticket prices are not necessarily tied to player salaries. Correlation does not imply causation. Being a bit tongue and cheek here but I hope you understand.
I assume the right to complain about every penny this organization spends when I've been a season ticket and seat licenses owner for several seasons. I don't ask you to agree with that opinion but just know that is where I am coming from.

Buh-bye, bruh. We don’t need an overpaid slot machine on the field.
If you don't deal for Quinn though, and don't draft the best DL available at #58, who else do you have to rush the passer?

Tank has all the leverage here and the Jones boys are squirming, even though they will never admit it. When those boneheads Gregory and Irving went down, his price went up and he knows it.

We asked him to prove himself and he has. We should have worked this out last year.

So I guess, based on this one game, you're not re-signing Smith, LVE, and the rest of the defense because they all got burned.

So did you coaches. Better let Richard walk too.

REALLY, bad interpretation of my point..

first off they arent UP for Contracts and NOT on a FT tag twice..its not one game, he barely made it over 10 sacks , has a injured shoulder he refuses to fix, wants too much money for what he truly is , maybe ranked 5 or 6 LDE but wants to be paid like hes the best..I like him I know he plays hard and can slow the run as well but reality hasn't hit him yet..hes not worth anything close to 22.5 hes worth 19, the fact that the FO offered him a very fair 20 and he refused shows where his head is at..

those other guys when they are up for new contracts we can evaluate them at that time on how thay are playing etc..right now the focus is fully on Tank and hes not playing fair at all..

as to what drafting a guy hoping he pans out and if he does it is year 3 or 4 of his rookie deal and this starts over....
Yes, that is a risk as a well.

The Cowboys have a tendency to have a top heavy roster and it is a big reason they don't have much post season success the last two decades. Sometimes you have to let the really good ones go.

at 20 mill a year he would be the highest paid DE in the NFL
exactly, yet hes truly 4, 5,6 maybe.. not top 3..hes good but this is not just money issue, hes injured AGIAN, refusing to get it fixed, playing hardball..i want him here but im willing to wait on his holdout, a trade, or he will eventually play but after a FT sign , surgery, and what that makes him arrive 4 -6 games into the season..

Obviously the Cowboys believe in his value or wouldn’t have Tagged him a second time.

Now we’re just haggling out a couple million delaying a deal.

Say they pay him what he wants would it be fair for fan expectation for him to play as the best DE in the NFL? No excuses, no blaming others but actually holding the player accountable. He did not do jack in post season but all I heard was it was Marinelli fault or Richards fault when the fact is these high priced players stand around getting their pay check and get free passes from the fan base. You want big money then play to that level and should he be paid as the top then nothing less should be expected from his play.

Absolutely!!!!!!

And Lawrence would be a fool not to play that card. Strictly business...

You don't have any bad memories about what this defense looked like without a passrush? I should try and drag up some of those war daddy threads and compare this forums takes.
