Front office initially offered $17MM, if they would have offered $20MM initially we'd probably have a deal.
Yep.. it’s strictly business.

The Salary Cap is 188.2 million this year. We didn’t spend much in FA so we could sign our own guys. Well, this the biggest guy we have to sign this year.

This is almost exactly where I expected things were at. Tank still has no incentive to sign until the lesser DEs on the market sign their deals. His number can only go up. It’s in his interest to wait if the team won’t set the market, and the Cowboys won’t set the new market.

So let me get this straight.

Lawrence wanted $20MM. He was initially offered $17MM. So now that he finally has his $20MM he's going penalize the Cowboys and demand more now?

You do realize that doesn't make Lawrence or his agent look good, right?

It's a very one sided way to look at it. However, there has been movement in the market since then with Flowers & Smith signing their deals.

But I am not opposed to calling his bluff on not signing the tag and sitting out a full year. It's only going to hurt him.

There is little to no question that Canter is angling for the same thing that he got the Dolphins with Vernon to do three years ago, rescind the tag.

Dallas has waited it out this long and the FA money is not completely dry.

For a team like Indianapolis, they are dripping with cap money with over $72M just sitting there. Even the Jets or Raiders with just $29-32M could take him.

This gets to where dropping the tag is admitting defeat. Dallas has enough cap space to wait him out, even if he pulls a Le'Veon Bell and stretches it to next year.

That just causes a delay in getting the other internal deals done.

The trade route seems to be the best way to go. They just have to be prepared to hang onto him.

This is just a shade below Mack and above Miller.

Kind of laughable that Lawrence would turn it down actually.

The Mack trade hurt Oakland temporarily and moving him would leave Dallas in a bad position.

But you do have to consider the reality of wrecking your cap over an end. Particularly if their design is to pay the QB, pay the WR and pay the RB.

Lawrence is not a sacrifice quality player. He just isn't.

I think they're probably closer than the talk is letting on. I can see him taking $20-21 after all is said and done.

It might be where the market sets but, I would not give in and pay it. I would try and trade him or pull the tag and let him try and get his money after the draft. We should pull the trigger on Quinn and draft DE heavy in the draft. FO shouldn't be held hostage for one player who was never as good as DWare. He needs surgery and that is going to play havoc with him getting max money.

If we can throw money at a retired, washed up TE, we can come to terms with one of the best pass rushers in the game. Meet in the middle and get it done.

Dallas is being more than fair, if DLaw is holding out for 22 mill then move on.

No. Meet in the middle and get the deal done. I don't see what the big issue here is. This happens all the time in contract negotiations. Two sides rarely see eye to eye early. But the numbers are not that far off. Dallas can find a way to make both parties happy if they want to.

Yeah Tank is looking for all he can get. Now I have no problem with someone wanting to do that. It's just that at what point do realize that you are set for life and still hold out for more? It just gets weird.

I would agree IF there were performance incentives. He's been a roller-coaster during his career.

Dallas does value him they would not be offering 20 mill a year deal if they didn't and his response to it was ok I want 22 million now. As for a history of cheap? LOL Frederick deal was not cheap, Zack Martin deal not cheap, Tyron Smith deal was not cheap, Dez Bryant deal was not cheap. In each instance these players were paid either top money or within the top 3 in the NFL. Dallas does not spend big in FA but they have taken care of their own. The deal they offer up at least if report is true makes DLaw the highest paid DE so don't hand me that non sense of Dallas being cheap because that is a load of BS.
I was referring to getting cheap at the wrong time referencing our decisions with our RB and WR by committee. This looks like another one of those potential decisions with a DL by committee.

I bet the Witten thing is where he is looking at the $2M "impasse" difference and just being amazed.

The WR by committee was mainly through getting rid of Dez Bryant. It was not a choice between a good player and a wrecked cap like this is.

They just made a foolish decision thinking being "Dak-friendly" was smart and trying to fill it cheap.

This is completely different.
