Yep.. it’s strictly business.Front office initially offered $17MM, if they would have offered $20MM initially we'd probably have a deal.
love DLaw but in fairness 3 of those years they were looking for someone like him they had him.We went many years looking for someone like him.... I hope they work it out.
This one is different IMO because of the our dire circumstances after losing two high risk DL.And start a bad precedent of giving in to free agent players demands.
They were both rotational players, so it's really not Apples to Apples. This one is different IMO because of the our dire circumstances after losing two high risk DL.
So let me get this straight.
Lawrence wanted $20MM. He was initially offered $17MM. So now that he finally has his $20MM he's going penalize the Cowboys and demand more now?
You do realize that doesn't make Lawrence or his agent look good, right?
But I am not opposed to calling his bluff on not signing the tag and sitting out a full year. It's only going to hurt him.
This is just a shade below Mack and above Miller.
Kind of laughable that Lawrence would turn it down actually.
The Mack trade hurt Oakland temporarily and moving him would leave Dallas in a bad position.
But you do have to consider the reality of wrecking your cap over an end. Particularly if their design is to pay the QB, pay the WR and pay the RB.
Lawrence is not a sacrifice quality player. He just isn't.
This is almost exactly where I expected things were at. Tank still has no incentive to sign until the lesser DEs on the market sign their deals. His number can only go up. It’s in his interest to wait if the team won’t set the market, and the Cowboys won’t set the new market.
Dallas is being more than fair, if DLaw is holding out for 22 mill then move on.
I would agree IF there were performance incentives. He's been a roller-coaster during his career.No. Meet in the middle and get the deal done. I don't see what the big issue here is. This happens all the time in contract negotiations. Two sides rarely see eye to eye early. But the numbers are not that far off. Dallas can find a way to make both parties happy if they want to.
I was referring to getting cheap at the wrong time referencing our decisions with our RB and WR by committee. This looks like another one of those potential decisions with a DL by committee.Dallas does value him they would not be offering 20 mill a year deal if they didn't and his response to it was ok I want 22 million now. As for a history of cheap? LOL Frederick deal was not cheap, Zack Martin deal not cheap, Tyron Smith deal was not cheap, Dez Bryant deal was not cheap. In each instance these players were paid either top money or within the top 3 in the NFL. Dallas does not spend big in FA but they have taken care of their own. The deal they offer up at least if report is true makes DLaw the highest paid DE so don't hand me that non sense of Dallas being cheap because that is a load of BS.
I bet the Witten thing is where he is looking at the $2M "impasse" difference and just being amazed. If we can throw money at a retired, washed up TE, we can come to terms with one of the best pass rushers in the game. Meet in the middle and get it done.
The WR by committee was mainly through getting rid of Dez Bryant. It was not a choice between a good player and a wrecked cap like this is.I was referring to getting cheap at the wrong time referencing our decisions with our RB and WR by committee. This looks like another one of those potential decisions with a DL by committee.
I'm predicting that they work a deal out.
