No. They were still leading at that point. The game wasn't lost there. The game was lost on the drive by ZW and the foul out by Fall. I credit Duke for nothing on that play. They got the benefit of three poor calls by the Refs on that one play. Truth is, Duke should have been lining up on the other end watching UCF shoot Free Throws because Williams did charge. That's not clutch, that's just a case of the Refs swallowing their whistles IMO.

Sorry but you missed a few things. UCF got a call on the ball not hitting the rim but it could have went either way. On that same play Tacko was actually over the back and blatantly holding Duke players arm and should have been a foul (50 seconds mark of the gamecast replay).

The Zion play probably never happens if they were up 5 instead of 3 because Duke shoots a three ball. Also Tacko left foot was clearly in the circle so they would never call a charge. It's either a no call or a block. (55 second mark of the video).

So both teams benefitted at the end of the game from some missed calls. UCF missed the key play and a point blank shot at the buzzer.

List your preferences for final 16 to win it all

Here are mine, roughly

  1. North Carolina (my alma mater and most of family is there)
  2. Florida St (my wife's alma mater)
  3. Va Tech (won't happen, but my parents have ties there)
  4. Virginia (way past due)
  5. Texas Tech ( several friends that went there...and jt is one of our--albeit very opinionated--homeboys,:)
  6. Gonzaga (if no ACC wouldn't mind non "power conf winner)
  7. Houston (see 6)
  8. Oregon?? (8-14 are tossups)
  9. Purdue (never won it all)
  10. Tennessee (see 9)
  11. Auburn (see 9)Purdue (see10)
  12. Michigan (1 title)
  13. Michigan St (2 titles)
  14. LSU (huge cheaters, otherwise I'd pull for them much higher)
  15. Kentucky...uh, no
  16. Duke :muttley:(actually several friends/colleagues from there, but just can't do it)

The offensive foul in question on Zion was when he lowered his shoulder and pushed off with his left arm to knock down Taylor around the free throw line. I agree that UCF had a couple calls in their favor. Actually as rough as Zion and Tacko play they both should have fouled out earlier. That’s not going to happen to Zion. There were about 4 plays in the last 15 seconds that went Duke’s way but that’s nothing new.

No, that was not a missed call. Come on man, did you watch the game? The call was made and no video proof was discernible to overturn it. That's not the same thing as swallowing your whistle but hey, believe what you want to believe.

What does Tacko's foot have to do with anything? Williams charged from the top of the key on the last play. I mean, that's clear. All the rest is pointless because they should have been headed the other way to make Free Throws and Williams should have been headed to the bench because he would have fouled out.

Gotta know the rules man. Did you watch the replay? He spun and went into Tacko. Inside the circle the defender is getting called every time. Refs missed a clear over the back on Tacko which he scored right after. Fans gotta stop blaming the refs is what I’m saying. You sound like a Saints fan.

ACC fans have seen Zion muscle folks all year so we aren’t as shocked when there’s contact and no call is made. Kind of like how Lebron muscled his way past guys for years.

LOL... I don't even think you know what is being discussed here "Man", it has nothing to do with Falls. It has everything to do with the contact prior to that. There was contact with Taylor and Taylor hit the deck. That is a foul, regardless of if it was on Taylor or Williams. That's a foul and a call had to be made there. There is no continuation rule in the NCAA so play had to stop right there. What happens after that is of no consequence. It shouldn't have even been a shoot foul as Williams was not in the act. That was a bad no call by the Officials and there is no dispute on that. It's not even about if Williams charged or if he was blocked (which BTW, Williams did charge there), the issue is that there was a no call there. That's completely unacceptable and that's the biggest problem IMO.

What fans have to do is stop making excuses for the refs just because the like team x or team whatever. The refs blew it here, not because they made the wrong call but because all of them swallowed their whistles on what was clearly a foul and compounded it by allowing their unwillingness to make a call effect the game through a call. That's wrong and it's dishonest. You are wrong here IMO.

Matchups are everything.

Just between Carolina, Duke, and Virginia….it all depends on the matchup

  • Carolina matches up well with Duke
  • Duke matches up well with Virginia
  • Virginia matches up well with Carolina

Can't two ACC team fans just get along?
:muttley:
He’s an ACC fan? Seems like he’s never seen Zion play before. He makes that type of contact all season. For some reason he ignores fouls on the other team. Refs tend to swallow whistles at the end of games. Probably should watch more basketball.

Fans love taking the easy way out and blaming the refs. I guess the other 38 minutes, missed layups, missed free throws, etc don’t count.

Pretty sure he’s a knowledgable fan, uva.

Should be a great sweet 16 and beyond this year. Good luck to your wahoos

If you say so. Good luck too.

What happened to the Big 12 guy?

He'll show up at some point.
Really, besides a few other teams, I wouldn't mind if his Texas Tech the team won it. But we'd never hear the end of it if they did. lol
He's the guy who bet me a few years ago that FSU and Clemson would jump at the chance to leave the ACC for the Big 12. Old news at this point.

As for ABQ, he is a Tar Heel fan (so maybe, like me, a bit irrational toward our Duke brethren their team) but I think he's way into Texas Longhorn football.

Btw, I have a couple of UVa grad friends here in Dallas. Great guys whose kids run my youngest son.
But I think, along with Duke and NC State fans, I think they really don't like the Heels.
I get it. ACC hoops comes with passion

If I knew he was Heels fans I would have stopped a while ago since he’s probably not being rational. Always blaming refs seems like a cop out to me and kind of bothers me.

Should be some good games tonight. Really looking forward to the FSU vs Zags game.

Zags holds serve and beats FSU
Texas Tech is just mauling Michigan.

Great overtime game earlier between Tennessee and Purdue.
A bit dicey in Purdue’s favor at the end, but whatever. The Vols really stunk in 1st half.
