This time last year, we were hearing that Williams is better suited for OG anyhow because he has relatively short arms for an OT.

Maybe it's just me, but unless Connor's grown some arm length, and unless that was all a charade to make us feel better about drafting him to play OG, I'm hard-pressed to think of him as an OT.
He played LT at Texas.

I have no idea where this idea came from that he can’t play OT.

Remember when we were told that Jason Witten coming back wouldn't cause the Cowboys to ignore TE in the draft?
Dawson Knox was the only decent TE left at 90, Buffalo was probably the only team that thought that wasn't too early for him.

They weren't going to draft a TE anyway. They are happy with the TE corps they have which already includes a project player in Rico. Now they have a player/coach in Witten to mentor the next generation.

He checks off all the boxes as a tackle except length. Problems with length can be overcome with good feet and technical proficiency.

I actually think he's a better tackle fit because his main issue is dealing with power. You typically face more powerful defenders on the inside than outside.

Both Jarwin and Schultz flashed so I don't mind giving them a year to see if they can develop into more than that. They have to prove, though, that they deserve to be on the field more than Witten, and that will take consistency and better blocking. Fans are going to be mad if Witten receives the majority of the playing time, but it simply might mean that neither Schultz or Jarwin is showing the consistency needed to be the starter. If that's the case, then tight end because a priority next year.

No, they don't have to prove they deserve to be on the field more than a legend like Witten. There just has to be not much or any drop off in performance when they are on the field in place of Witten. When they can do that then they will have earned their stay on the roster. Witten is on a one year deal so Jarwin and Shultz are still competing for time on the field post-Witten. They will be the veterans to show the new guys next year how it's done.

Either of those two I would have liked in day 3.

LOL..... When I first saw this post, I thought that you were talking about the two woman. I have no idea why, no good reason. Not sure what Sigmund Freud would say about this but whatever it is, I hope he doesn't tell my Wife.

Really really like the Wise, Hyatt and Westry pickups!

Wise could push Ross off the roster. DT is really starting to look like a plus

Hyatt - Eventual backup swing tackle. Dallas is going to love this kids work ethic

Westry - Still don’t know how this kid didn’t get drafted based off numbers alone. 6’4, 4.3 40, never missed a game. No character issues either.
He was benched at Kentucky after being a starter early on. He has to make the team as a boundary CB.

I think it was more about him starting on a bad Wildcat defense as a freshman and then getting beaten out later on.

If you look, they had an amazing secondary last year.

I don't agree. Witten's snaps are supposed to be limited. Whether they will be depends on how the other tight ends play. The run blocking by the tight ends was not as good last season so they have to step up in that area to keep Witten's playing time limited. They didn't consistently get open, so they have to prove to be better than that than Witten. However, Jerry Jones seems to already be waffling on Witten's playing time being limited.

Witten is a legend on the back end of his career. The team has to find out if any of these guys can be the replacement. So it's either step up and be that guy or Witten plays a majority of the snaps and we're back to looking for a player who can be our next starting tight end.

"Limited" only means he won't be playing every snap. He's never played every snap so good luck with your idea that the other tight ends not named Witten will make any major contribution as long as Witten is on the active roster. The fact that tight end run blocking was not as good last season just means Witten was missed. The other TEs just have to improve, which can be done at practice. They aren't going to outwork Witten for starting time. I don't know where you got the impression Witten was coming back one more season to sit on the bench. That's just dumb.
