The Case Against Extending Elliott

A) Nobody is saying replace Zeke this year. The focus on who will replace him is simple... A mid round rb next year in a loaded class.

B) Bell gained a year of respite from the rigors of the position. Very few industries allow, and very few workers can demand that they take an entire year off because they refuse to work without a raise and then come back and get to sign a deal of their choosing.

C) I don't know why this never comes up in Zeke discussions... But Zeke wasn't that good last year. Yes the counting stats look great. Nope no issue with the YPC. But when any analysis tries to divorce the rb from the offensive line Zeke's value plummets. He doesn't break long runs. He doesn't force many missed tackles.

Run Zeke into the Ground.... I mean MVP conversation.... Tag him. Trade him. Learn from this mistake.

You sure you are watching the same team?

Zeke wasn't that good last year?!? he had 2001 scrimmage yards. His best year yet.

He's on pace to break all of Emmitt's records.

Except that we cannot win without Zeke so there’s that.....
Zeke is the diff between 10-6 and 6-10

That's a bunch of BS. The passing game is clearly ready to take over the offense as long as Moore can get more aggressive and creative. And if we aren't going to have Zeke then you clearly go out in the draft of in FA and get a quality back. Between that back and Pollard the Cowboys could remain one of the top rushing offenses. And you can add to the defense another pro bowl type talent.

Give any quality back 450 touches and they will approach 2000 yards. And no doubt they will get more than 7 or 8 TD's.

But we are talking about Zeke. Not any other back. Another back plays for the Commanders or some other scrub team.

Zeke.

He's the man!

And he's gonna get that big pay check.

Yes he is... it’s just a matter where from.

But I have a new respect for his Thuggish butt. He understands the business of the NFL better than I gave him credit for. And if he’s truly willing to sit out this year he’s going to wreak havoc on this team this year and probably before mid season Jerry will cough it up to save the season or trade him if we can win without him.

You are doing what I call Broaddus-ing.

An continued attempt to prove your draft opinion correct by any means necessary while pretending to actually be analyzing the current situation.

Zeke more than doubled his receptions from 2016. His pass blocking and attention to detail was terrific but it requires studying game footage to see all of those detailed issues.

A look at all NFL teams shows it'a not as trivial as just drafting a "mid-round" RB; otherwise all teams would have really good ones.

I have seen pages and pages of posts about re-signing or not re-signing or trading Zeke but barely any of them address who would replace him.

Hes one of the best. But you don't need the best RB. Poor use of funds. Especially when you have one of the top lines in football. Zeke is a luxury, not a necessity.

And the fact that he is an immature fool makes that choice even easier.

I agree he will get paid. But I wouldn't be bothered in the least if they traded him.

"He's the straw, if you will, that stirs our drink. He's a key part of what we're about," Jerry Jones said.

One of the few things Jerry “gets” over some members here

So, you think we’ll get a suitable replacement in trade this year? I’m thinking if we get draft picks that won’t help us until next year.

What could this mean or the effects on this season without Elliot?

Who thinks we’re a better team this year without Elliott?

We are only a better team without Zeke if we can find someone that will give us equal production and no off field issues that keep him from playing .

I would like someone with the work ethic of Jaylon Smith at RB . Seems like Zeke is a party first guy who relies on natural ability . These don't usually have long NFL careers .

It all about who could we get and not lose production while capitalizing on Zeke as a proven commodity. Hard to say this close to camp if it could be done.

That’s not who this team is

I think its pretty obvious that its time to change. Jerry knew it and fired linehan and brought in Moore.

Zeke and the run first offense was devised to help Romo in his later years and to keep a bad defense off the field. The defense is now a strength and Dak and the passing game is ready to take the next step. Time to adjust. And you will be hard pressed to have the most expensive Oline in the NFL, a WR at 18 million per year, a QB at 30 million and then pay the RB 18 million. You have to save somewhere. From where I am sitting, that would be at the RB position. And I see it as a amazing that our current RB is young and a top 3 back. It gives you 2 great options.

1. Play out his rookie deal for two more years and then possibly franchise him or
2. Trade him for some big time draft assets after THIS season.

But the Zeke guys are probably in luck. I would think that at some point Zeke will get paid.

Yep.....…...you don't replace Zeke with a scrub. And your not going to find ONE back that is as good as Zeke. But you can have 2 or 3 backs that can equal his production. And you can probably do it for 1/4 the price if you use the draft.

The RB position would be a position where I would NEVER use a #1 pick and never let a guy get to that 2nd big contract. If they want big money, they can walk or trade them.
