what i love about this deal is that NO ONE is questioning whether Jaylon is worth top 5 money after a single great season. I like the bet on him but still.

To review. Jaylon, top 5 money after one great season. Zeke can go to hell after three great seasons. And don't even start with the "going about it the right way" garbage.
From all accounts, Jaylon Smith is not only an exceptional football player but a good person.

Zeke, on the other hand, is an exceptional football player and an absolute immature douchebag.

Sometimes people like to see the good guy win.

I’ve been saying the same thing. I’m glad they did it but it is funny how people are upset for Zeke and DAk wanting top 5 money but don’t question or even bring up that Jaylon only has one solid year under his belt.

Myles Jack has more total tackles and more tackles annually 2 of the 3 seasons charted.
And Jack has a possible degenerative knee issue that could cut his career short... Jaylon is recovered from his knee issue and back at full strength.

LOL. One of those years Smith didn’t even play rehabbing his knee. I sure hope Jack had more tackles than Smith that year.

he wasn't expected to be much the first two years. do you think last year was just a fluke. I do not.

Its not like he came out of nowhere. We all know his pedigree.

So that’s the contract that Jerry was referring to a few days ago...details to be announced later this afternoon.

Now there’s a guy who’s earned it.

Edit- didn’t see the other thread. Oops. Mods please move to the original.
I'm so proud of this guy he has worked his but of to get back and now he is one of the best in the league. I agree with the move. This guy deserves the money. He is the leader of the defense now. If the guys on offense don't sign maybe we should start signing the players on defense. Just a thought. The only one I'd definitely pay is Zeke. Top 5 money for Cooper is very fair. So is Dak. Zeke deserves to at least be tied for 1st.

Post-purchase rationalization.

Fans tend to focus on the positive aspects of a new contract. Whenever a player is signed, most of the board tends to rejoice and proclaim the contract “a steal.”

yeah Jaylon has never been injury prone at all. he's had a grand total of 1 injury over the course of his entire football career dating back to middle school, but that 1 did threaten his career but fortunately not ruin it

I'm pretty sure that nobody would think signing Quack at 35 mil AAV/6 years/120 mil guaranteed would be a "steal". Or Cooper at 22m/year, etc.

Zeke needs to be at least tied for highest paid not just top five. They have offered Dak and Cooper top 5 money already. I don't know what the guarantees are but 30 million is enough. With Dak though I'd be tempted to make it fully guaranteed. The reason being is he is never hurt. The only time he was is when he played Seattle last year when he ran for that 3rd and 14 and almost got a TD and got hit in the knee. He d we deserves more guaranteed money than Wentz does that is no doubt. There shouldn't even be an argument about that if wentz got 107 then Dak needs 115 . Its that simple. That's almost all guaranteed but that's ok. He deserves it but at the 30 million per season rate.

You’d be surprised. I mean, the Cowboys are paying Jaylon top five money, and I keep reading how it’s a steal.
It's barely top five though. There's a high drop off from the first three. $10.67M AAV is very manageable.

See what happens when a player is willing to agree to a reasonable deal?

Wow. This deal is crap for Jaylon.

5 mill SB. 13 legit guaranteed. 16 guaranteed only for injury.

Kid took a weak deal. That's reasonable given the injury history. Also reasonable given that Jaylon has no leverage.

Anyone looking at this one and thinking Zeke. Dak, or Cooper are comparable needs to go in the concussion protocol.
