I'm always bothered when Crawford is referred to as a "starter". It's simply semantics and wordplay.
He's a "starter" in name only, and anyone being honest knows that.
And no, I am not referring to you personally here so please don't take it that way.
It's just seeing that term associated with the player is aggravating.
He has been a starter by all definitions.
- Played on the 1st snap.
- Played more than 50% of snaps.
- Played the majority of the games each season.
Occasionally a 2nd TE will play the 1st snap and be listed as starter but will play less than 50% of the snaps. A player really shouldn't be called a starter in that situation.
Crawford played the most snaps of any DL some years and was always top 3 DL in snaps played. That's a starter by any definition.
Brandon Weedon was a starter at QB for some games. He was not a starting quality QB and he was not a full time starter because he only played 4 games for the Cowboys in 2015.
There are 3 terms I use in regards to this issue:
Starter
Full Time Starter
Starting Quality Player
Crawford was a full time starter meaning he started the games, played the majority of snaps and played the majority of the games.
What you are trying to say (I think) is that Crawford was not a starting quality player.
