Have you seen another player get discounted because they have 2 years left off their contract? I've never even heard of this discount from the front office, only from fans who are "offended" at the audacity to ask for something where there's league precedent.
Yes. I think it's more common than not. Might only be 3-5%, but from what I hear, it is taken into account...as it should be.
Then again, few hold out with two years left on their deal. Very few.

Jerry is live on 105.3 now and it’s clear as day - Jerry has made his best offer and he is expects to play without Zeke until week 10. He said he believes that Zeke will be back then to accrue a year (people saying that Zeke lost the opportunity to accrue a year are wrong, it seems).

Get ready to be without Zeke for the long term ladies and gentlemen. But I’d bet one month salary he’s not back for week 1.

That argument barely holds water even when you're in the final year of your contract, it sure as hell doesn't hold water two years out.

It's Zeke's argument and it does hold water because there's the threat it can happen which is why securing a contract now somewhat alleviates that gargantuan risk for him.

If this place has a meltdown if we lose our opener because of Zeke's not playing, then we can go ahead and remind everyone that we started 3-5 last year with Zeke and things got so bad we had to bring in another skill player to the "savior" of our season.

I would hope Jerry and Stephen would remind Zeke of this as well.

They do hold out and they do get paid. Where is this documented discount you speak of? Did Aaron Donald get one?

Aaron Donald was drafted in 2014 and got his new deal in 2018....after4 years, not 3.

I have a couple of sports agents friends/acquaintances. They say it's real and common sense. Players even are up for it if they can get that guaranteed lock in a year earlier.. This even applies sometimes to getting it done ONE year out...or before the final year begins....let alone two years.
There's always exceptions. But even that is impossible to prove

No way to prove it either way.

Right. It didn't look like Aaron Donald got one.

Right. It didn't look like Aaron Donald got one.
But he did his deal with ONE year left...more normal.
Zeke is doing it with TWO left.
The extra year discount did not apply to Donald.

I'm all for players getting whatever they can get. But with two years left in the deal, I think Zeke should not shoot for the max. And maybe he's not.

yep. drafted him in 2 leagues. one at the 2nd pick for just rolling the dice, the other at 4 where he seems to be all the time now. no other RB really had that appeal and i just had to make sure i drafted (2) solid other RB's to put zeke on the bench for a little bit.

in any event, i hate holdouts. but in this case i am still glad jones is holding his ground.
At 4 you should have been able to get a back other than Zeke.

Jerry has an opportunity here to help the team on future negotiations, if he stands firm with a player of Zeke's caliber and Zeke's contribution to the team, then lesser players down the road won't be so quick to think Jerry's a pushover when things get tough. Maybe he's not thinking that as the primary reason for standing firm, but it's a definite plus...

Honestly, I think they'd do it in a heartbeat.......not sure if you read/heard but there's some twitter talk that Jags are on the fence about signing him to a long-term deal. Nothing to with talent, he's high maintenance.

True, but he does play a high value position though.

Lesser players would be cut or traded

Did he? Okay, I thought I heard he did it after his 3rd year but stand corrected.

https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/pla...york-giants-in-week-1-without-ezekiel-elliott

(Mods please edit/fix Zeke’s name in title )

Jerry Jones on Ezekiel Elliott: "I'm operating as though right now he's going to miss regular season games. My entire expectation for what we're putting together as a team right now would anticipate with him holding out ... that he's going to miss games. I just accept that."

It begins....

We went through this in 93.

It doesn’t start well....
