For all of those who think Zeke won:

What you seem to be missing is that Zeke still has to complete the 2 years he had on his original rookie contract. When you put the two contracts and the corresponding money together, it comes out to 8 years and a little less than 103 million dollars. If you divide 103 by 8 you get 12.875, which is right in line with exactly what the Jones boys wanted to pay.

But of course the agent wants the world to think Zeke won the negotiation because after all that's how he gets more talent to sign with him and his agency.

No leverage=no new contract like Melvin Gordon
Leverage=highest paid rb in NFL history Zeke

Salty tears.:lmao2:

Doah!!! Looks like you might even be picking up the utilities now! At this point, I might could think about retiring and maybe planning some kind of addition. Lord knows, your head needs all the upgrades it can get.

I haven't seen anything that says they were offering $50 million guaranteed or anywhere close, early on.

No, but they did mention a deal coming in around 13 annually with 4 years and that's pretty much where we are at. I mean, I never heard that either but that just means that we don't know what the number was to begin with. It could have been 45 or it could have always been 50, I don't know. Either way, it doesn't matter to me. I'm really happy with the overall deal so to me, it's a win - win.

The Cowboys put up a good show of being pushed to the limit on the Zeke contract.

In reality the Jones boys are laughing and and giving everybody high-fives behind the scenes.

It's a 4 year, 50M commitment which is a 12.5M average.

If they decide to keep him beyond the 4 years, then it becomes a bigger advantage to them because 5 years from now this contract will look small.

Couldn't read the article so I have no idea what it says but, I don't really get this thread. Enough for what? This actually sounds like what Jerry offered all along. Maybe more up front money or something but I guess I just don't see how either side got over here. It's a good contract, lots of money early but average salary is very reasonable, for the players talent. Short term with team options for later years. I just think this is a very good deal for everybody and I don't really see how leverage changed anything. Seriously, I really don't.
Like most threads on CowboysZone you have to approach the topic with a child’s mentality. You have to look at every situation as if one person won and another lost. One person is right and the other is wrong.

Anything beyond that and your getting a little too deep.

He had no leverage, Jerry just caved.

All true brother Jerry had all the leverage . If it was 20yrs ago Jerry would have let him sit . Jerry has all the money just short on time now and decided Zeke was more of a sure thing for a SB run

Well that is true,,
Don't care if we sell our collective souls for the next 20 years if we can win another SB.
Jerry sold his soul to the devil for his 3 SB wins. I don't know that he's got anymore deals to make that get us another SB win.

STOP IT ALREADY!!!!!!! If you were in the camp of "Zeke has no leverage", you were wrong plain and simple. ZEKE IS THE HIGHEST PAID RUNNING BACK IN NFL HISTORY. Mr. Rocky Arceneaux's phone is probably ringing off the hook right now with the job he did, they didn't do any talking or negotiating in the media the let the Joneses do all that.

The contract does not look the way you think it does. Guaranteed money, structure, etc. all matter more than the raw total amount. This is a good contract for Zeke, but you're exaggerating.

Leverage to get exactly the same amouint of money this season he was alreayd getting?
I'm not sure people paid attention to the actual deal.
Zeke claims no extra 2019 money and a lot of his GTD money is actually conditional.
The team is paying him a lot next year when they would have been willing to do anyway.
His leverage got him promises but no immediate return.

If Zeke had real leverage he would have cashed a check for 20M already.

Gurley got 21M in SB. Zeke got 7.5M.

Zeke will get his money basically when he was always going to get it.

A guy with no leverage doesn't get offered a contract while still having two years left on his original contract.

It doesn't matter how many people yell "Zeke had no leverage" he had it the moment Dallas made him an offer.
It doesn't matter what you say, he didn't have any leverage. See how effective that argument is? No matter what you say, it gets turned on you. No matter what you say... :D
