No way should they give Dak $34 million a season this year.

They would save millions in the long run by having him play at his current deal. Even if it cost them $37 (doubtful) next year it would take 10 seasons for him to make up the $30 plus million he would lose this year by playing on his current deal.

I wasn’t a big believer that the Wentz contract hemmed us in much, but that Goff guaranteed money is going to kill us.

Wentz, Goff, and Dak were all in the same draft class and roughly have similar numbers to each other.

Doesn't take Einstein to figure out where Dak's contract is going to be. Most likely sandwiched between Wentz and Goff with similar AAV and guaranteed money.

Yeah, it’ll end up like Zeke’s deal and he just like the comps and everyone is going to wonder what took so long.

This isn't how it works.

Any extension would include this year's salary. Same as for Zeke.

Actually with the 30 percent rule they’d have to replace his contract this year. They can’t go from 2 million to 30 million year to year. That’s way more than 30 percent. You have to start with a brand new contract to do that.

Might as well put a lot of money this year while there’s cap room and not much else to use it on.

Because we had an entire body of work last year with Trubisky and he was a mediocre / solid QB.

Dak through his first 3 games last year didn’t have a 200 yard passing game and had 2 TDs with 2 INTs.

I think some of you are just a little biased towards Dak... I mean that’s ok.. We are on a Cowboys forum and all.

Trubisky last night
26/45(57%) for 228 yards, 5.1 yards per attempt, 0 TDs, 1 INT, 3 dropped INTs in first half alone, 62.1 rating.

Dak in your three hand picked games
54/88(61.3%) for 498 yards, 5.65 yards per attempt, 2 TDs, 2 INTs, 78 rating.

Receiving options:
Robinson>>>>>Hurns
Gabriel>>>>>Twill
Shaneen>>>>>Swaim
Cohen>>>>>>Elliott
Beasley>>>Miller

Did not include rushing

Come on Catch. You know it’s not true that “at worst” they will Be Dakish.

There are a lot of QB’s drafted in the first round that aren’t as good as Dak. It’s probably a 50/50 shot at best that you draft a QB as good as he is. And even less then 50% that they will be better than Dak.

Sure there’s a chance you could draft somebody better. But there’s also the chance that you burn a first round pick and end up with a worse QB.

There is plenty of risk involved with letting Dak walk and trying to replace him through the draft. At least be honest with yourself about the realities of what trying to replace him would look like.
We agree on this, there is no magical draft solution, Dak is here to stay, everyone should know this, for me the rub is this so called "market" cost. Dak is a good to above slightly average starting QB in the NFL (my opinion) to me he should be paid between 11-16 th money not top 1,2 or 3. In the end doesn't matter as it's not my money and Jerry will do what Jerry wants and as the end of Jerry's time is short on this earth and he knows it and is now grasping what may be his last shot at the big one he doesn't have another 23 years to keep screwing it up again. .

as in, HE KINDA SUCKS. He has his small moments, but unless something drastically changes with him, he is what he is.

He does and he was a high 1rst round draft pick. All I've been saying is that for better or worse we are stuck with Dak, he is going to get paid what ever it takes to get the deal done the only debate is when it will get done. Just letting him go via free agency isn't an option because it may be years before we even find someone at his level let alone a top 5 QB.

We have the pieces in place now to make a run, if we start trying to train a new starting QB we might as well trade away all of our big name guys and start rebuilding be cause as soon as our new QB gets up to speed they will all be past their primes.

None of these guys signing big deals are starting with a brand new contract and tearing up the old one. The "new contract" is an extension of the old one that kicks in when the old one his up. That doesn't mean they don't get a big pay day this year however, because they will get a signing bonus for the extension.

I "hand picked" those 3 games because they were the start of the season so I could point out that you could just be overreacting to the 1st game of the season.

Who is Scott Barrett and what did he grade based on?

Dak and Trubisky had similar stats, they both were Pro Bowl replacements last year, and they really are in the same tier as players. Medicore / Solid QB's.

You really wont let it go will you? Dak is not mediocre. At all. I dont care if he passes for 100 yards and 2 touchdowns a game. As long as its in the fourth quarter (which is normally is) and we win. (which, with him under center we usually do) Dak would have destroyed GB last night. Keep saying that Mitch and Dak are similar when everyone knows its far from the truth.

Yeh 600 more yards better td to int ratio. 1 more total td. Better yards per attempt. and better qb rating. With trubisky getting a huge gift in short fields due to a defense that lead the league in takeaways with 36. We were bottom half of the league with 20.
