I know, but the big difference this time is the contract. In Jerry's eyes, there's a big difference between firing a coach with an existing contract, and not "renewing" a contract due to a better opportunity. Jerry can easily spin it that way and it won't be a monumental failure in his eyes, although it will be in ours.

He isn't safe after this season if the team doesn't make it further into the playoffs, that's why he wasn't extended. He is however safe from being fired mid season.
