Faith or no Faith that the Cowboys can turn things around?

I think this team is underachieving on both sides of the ball and can definitely improve. I wouldn't give you great odds on that happening, especially since some of the problems are longstanding -- like inconsistency on offense and failure to generate turnovers on defense -- but I haven't given up hope.

No. We were in this same boat last year, but the difference was the Cooper trade. At this point, getting players back from injury isn't enough. The offense might be fine, but the defense has regressed (or been exposed). I feel like without some dramatic season-defining change, the schedule ahead would indicate 5-7 losses unfortunately.

I assume "turn it around" means wins games and make the playoffs. So I have no faith they will turn things around. My reasoning is simple. I saw Zack Martin get manhandled by the Jets DL. Tyron Smith and La'El Collins are already out. I expect Tyron to come back, but I do not "have faith" he will stay healthy for the remainder of the season. Collins and Martin have bad backs. They don't get better without surgery and even then its a 50-50 shot. Ask Tiger Woods. Martin is a shell of himself right now. Add to that Frederick is not back to full strength and he is right now also a shell of himself.

Our defensive tackles suck. They sucked last year and teams are taking advantage of that. Plus, who expected Jaylon Smith to play as poorly as he is playing. I don't think the defense has the talent to turn it around even when they are healthy.

The Cowboys may beat the Eagles this week because that's what the weirdness of the Cowboys is. But I don't see them running off a streak against a string of quality teams coming up. They will win at most 8 games and Tyron Smith will finish the season in the training room. That's my prediction.

Tyron Smith is really the Cowboys MVP. Without him the offense looks sick. Can't run, can't pass, can't do anything. The defense just sucks. I think the Cowboys can somehow win Sunday because i"ve seen Garrett escape before but I really don't know how. As for the rest of the season, this is not a playoff team.

I'm just looking to take the current temperature of the forum and wanted to see where everyone's mindset is currently.

There are no right or wrong answers here and I hope everyone feels that they can answer honestly. Not toward other fans, but about this team.

What is your current feeling right now? Do you have faith that the Cowboys can turn things around and still compete for the division, playoffs, and maybe more?

Or has your faith been too seriously tested and you think this is the beginning of a huge slide and the end of the season?

I'll start. I don't have faith right now and I think the Eagles will lay a beating on this team come Sunday night. But having said that, I felt this same way last year and was totally wrong about that. That team surprised me and went on a run. Maybe they have it in them to do it once again?

Where do you stand at this point?

They need both tackles back and Cooper for starters. Then they can compete better. But I no longer feel like they have a shot to go all the way. Defense is simply NOT good enough. And this team is still a reflection of Garrett.

The problem is that we don have any capable backups that can play out there.

Amazing how they can play for Belli, but not for Garrett.

Are you really expecting an OL that might not have Smith or Collins to come out and dominate their DL?

I am not trying to make that as an excuse here, because excuses are weak at this point. But I am also not going to ignore reality here. I think if this team is going to win on Sunday, it's going to be on the backs of Prescott rebounding after three so-so weeks. The way to beat Philly is through the air, not on the ground. If we try to run it 35 times up the gut at these guys with this OL, there is zero chance we win IMO.

They are going to have to pass in order to make Elliott effective, IMO. Now if we had Collins and Smith and everyone was healthy? We are talking a different thing here.

Agreed. Philadelphia run defense has been fantastic and our oline a disaster. The only way we run the ball is if we start the game on fire torching their secondary.

I think our coaches are too stupid to acknowledge that and expect Dak to wilt under tremendous pressure as well.

No need to even get in to our sad state of affairs on defense.

Although this team has always been able to suprise me. Sadly they've crushed my optimism and Im prepared for a loss. Smh.

Yeah, I'm not confident. I'd love to be proven wrong but I've seen this play too many times.

Oh, faith will be back after Sunday. The Dak QBR threads will be going wild, "best qb in the NFL"."Wince who", Super Bowl baby, then the losses start. LMAO same crap different year.

Who are we looking at in the draft? when's preseason start?

With Garrett still here?.....we have a better chance of seeing Santa Clause folks.

Forget our recent injuries.....JG would use losing the waterboy as an excuse for another bad season.

I don’t trust Garrett in the post season. And this years schedule is rough after the bye week.

Not one player on either side of the ball, has a mean streak. Beating women, bar bums, and having twitter-heart, does not count. Therefore, I am out.

Well we did it last year after starting 3 and 5 and actually won a playoff game but I think this team has lost faith in Jason Garrett not sure they have it in them this year unless they suck it up and do it for themselves?

I still say just like the thread I started the first thing I would do if I was running this defense is I would get the DBS up on the receivers Jam them play physical with them then if we get beat we get beat it may give the d-line some help not sure about it but I would at least try it what do we have to lose?

Something's got to change and I'm about tired of hearing carrot say we just have to play better and execute better

I think they CAN? Yes. Will they? I’m not sure.

I think we will get things lined out on offense. I’m not as sure about the defense. I think this defense has been mostly bad for a long time and the excuse has been lack of talent. The problem is we have talent and we are still bad on defense. I think it’s schematic. So on defense, other than a performance here or there I think we will generally under perform on defense.

Im saying that if we are not able to run the call effectively, play action will not work and their DL will kill us

if we want to win we need an effective run game and we will know this in the first quarter
