All I heard about all offseasons was how loaded this roster was, possibly the most talented team in the league. If that's the case I have a hard time labeling jerry a bad gm.

The issue seems to be the people responsible for utilizing that talent. Obviously jerry put those people in charge though.....sooo....now my brain hurts.
This teams players are overrated. They have some nice starters when healthy but they have no depth. Can't believe some thought we had the most depth since the 90's.

This has been truly fascinating. Many thanks to everyone who has voted or will vote later.

I introduced this earlier but it never gained any traction. I will re-introduce it into discussion by phrasing it differently:

The Pro Football Hall of Fame's Board of Selectors put Jerry Jones into the Hall essentially on his merits as an owner and not as a general manager. Does anyone agree with their judgment? Disagree? Or believe they got it completely wrong because of some other reason?
I think he got in mainly as a contributor to the NFL in making the league grow. I have no problem with that. As an owner I give him credit for the 3 SB's as far as hiring JJ and letting him do his thing. If Jerry's in for that then Jimmy should be. He's just been an awful GM since the 90's.

An owner is concerned with his teams relevance. JJ has made The Dallas Cowboys the most recognizable and relevant sporting team in the world.
If I’m being brutally honest, over the last two decades we’ve had more in common with the Lions or the Browns, sure we’ve had a few more 17 game seasons then they have but we have been a .500 team. (Stat geeks I am over simplifying for effect, bear with me) And yet, every season, year in and year out we are discussed in national media right next to the Patriots, the Packers, the Seahawks, etc.
Having that kind of presence in the football world without the winning team to back it up is... insane. But that’s where JJ is at his best.
You may not like his football decisions, but you have to give credit where credit is due.

GREAT Owner, BAD GM

Yes, if you value making money and being in public then JJ is great at it.

I value team success first. If i had to chose between a medicore franchise whichs owner makes the top forbes list and a SB winning team whichs owner is unknown to the public id take the later every time.

I am a Sports fan not a making-money one. Else i would have chosen a investement bank or stock trader to cheer for.

Another thing: a good owner would have fired our gm a long time ago.

So very bad owner and even worse GM.

I still can't believe that he's in the HOF with his past 25-year track record!

Jones got in solely as a contributor per the Hall's rules. The Board of Selectors picked him mainly for his overall influence as an owner that greatly enhanced the league. I would speculate those same selectors have a high regard for Jones as an owner--enough so to enshrine him for all prosperity--despite any misgivings or total lack of respect they may have for him as a general manager.

a) Go to the top of the thread page
b) Click the View Results button
c) Click any of the # votes shown beside each poll option

I’m not arguing his GM skills or lack thereof.
But whether you approve or not, the owner’s job is to ensure the team is profitable. That’s why they BUY them. The Dallas Cowboys are the MOST profitable sport organization on the PLANET!

If you don’t think that’s HOF worthy, I don’t know what is?

My opinion is Jerry is going to continue to be the owner, regardless of what I think so there is no point in me obsessing about it!

I think he wants to win, and that makes him a good owner. But he wants to win HIS way, and his way has proven not to work. That makes him a bad owner.
He's an awful GM. A true GM would have canned Jason Garrett years ago.

Actually he was inducted as a “ contributor “ not specifically as an owner.

Just checked the current poll results.

I love polls. Sometimes they take generalizations and crushed them into dust.

Jerry just needs to for for the Trifecta and name himself as JGs replacement....at least it would be entertaining.

THAT would literally be the most infamous press conference in NFL history.
