I guess it is expected that the Cowboys will/should beat the lowly Giants. *Cough* just like the Jets *Cough*.
If/when that happens, the game against the Vikings will be telling for this team.
We have shown that we can beat mediocre teams but have struggled against playoff caliber teams.
Losing to Minnesota will only highlight this shortcoming.
It will also be a signal to Jerry that Garrett needs to be replaced at seasons end because he just isn't cutting it, so that's a positive.

 Beating the Vikings in Minnesota, sure thing, piece of cake.

The pessimists will discount the Vikings as a legitimate playoff caliber team the second the Cowboys beat them.
The Vikings play the Mohomesless Chiefs Sunday so there is a good chance they will be 7-2 coming into Dallas.
They are a pretty balanced team offensively and they have an above average Defense.
If the Cowboys do beat them, yes they will be discredited for beating a Kirk Cousins led team, but they have been playing well as of late.

Your take is that they should fire Garrett for losing a game that they have not played yet...

Well, the Eagles were a very solid team... until we gave them a good beatdown. After the game they suddenly become a trash team.

If we beat the Vikings comfortably, then they will also suddenly be a "pretender" according to some on this board.

So, it is much better to see it on a week to week basis. Let's first beat the Giants.

Not for losing just that game, but it would just be a signal, like losing to the Packers and Saints, that this team isn't a top-tier team.
Now, beating the Vikings would give a sense of hope that the team is a playoff worthy team.
