Jerry Jones Has Ruined Jason Garrett in 2019

Own & GM the team. The public display to the media doesn't help the team and definitely do not help the coaches specifically JG.

JG was one of the best young minds sought after by many many teams before OC of the Cowboys. Played under some great coaching minds and coached under living legends. Thats one of the reasons that JG was always able to rally teams mid season and why players never seemed to quit on him. Some how some way JJ has stripped Jason of all of that experience and literally made JG a shell of himself this year.

This is the same coach that took a rookie QB to a 13-3 record after losing his MVP caliber QB a couple of weeks before the season started. This is the same coach that dealt with a looming and then eventual 6 game suspension of the teams best player and still had a winning season. This the same coach that started a season 3-5 and led a team to a playoff birth and a victory over a well coached team and a MVP level QB.

What happened Thanksgiving 2019 is we saw JG get outside of himself....he didn't have confidence....he made coaching decisions that didn't make sense even when they worked. Jerry did this by making a circus after a 4 point lost to the greatest coach that ever lived. For the first time you could clearly tell that it affected JG; it is not an assumption it was obvious. So obvious that the players, the leaders on the team had to see it as well. Other GMs saw it to and while other teams may not have a Jerry Jones they have a media. If JG doesn't shock the world and turn this season around he may never be a head coach in the NFL again and he can thank Jerry for that.
Your memory of JG and the circumstances surrounding his hiring are quite different than mine.

My recollection, along with a Google search of news articles at the time of JG's hiring, is that he was a fair-haired favorite of JJ and not an offensive savant sought by many. Indeed, most of the expert commentary viewed JG as someone that could grow into the job as opposed to someone that would immediately impact the team's fortunes.

The fact that the 2016 team went 13-3 still amazes me and, honestly, is more a reflection of "catching lightening in a bottle" than it was coaching genius.

I am not trying to denigrate JG - there is certainly enough well-founded complaints floating around this site already - rather, I am simply trying to aid a different perspective to his hiring.

Not before he came to Dallas but before he became Head coach.....I thought it was 2 or 3 teams....I remember Ravens wanting him. I wonder does he have regrets not taking one of those deals? I think in 2019 he has to. This a mess.
IIRC, Denver was also interested in him.

So I'm guessing OP is one the members that voted to extend the Clapper.

That’s very true.

And I would not for a second tell you that you don’t have every right to be pissed.

We all do.
Another season of this crap.....one small positive is this seems to be the end of this Garrett era but the scary part is I don’t have any faith in them making the right moves after letting him go. I’m a little disappointed I woke up this morning and he hasn’t been fired.

There is no way any rational human could have "a lot" of confidence in Garrett at this point.

So the Jones' are just trying to BS the hell out of their fans while they scramble to figure out what the next step is or the Jones boys are beyond stupid and/or way too loyal to fire their buddy.

I'm disappointed too, but not surprised. The Jones and Garrett families are close. Too close to be mixing with business the way they have. And for that Jerry Jones deserves each and every tear he's cried.

But the good news I say that four more games and it's over. And even if the next head coach proves to be a word choice? We can take solace in the fact that he won't be 'extended family' that will be given years to prove he can't do the job. The next guy will actually be held accountable, and judged on results. That in itself is a win for every one of us fans.

It's a PR snowjob to keep the money flowing in. They simply can't give up on the season publicly, despite the fact that they have privately.

Imagine a circle. A circle of mediocrity. There are two travelers on the circle of mediocrity. Garrett and Jerry. Round and round they go. If one traveler slows the other will catch up and bump the other forward, thus setting them into motion again. Round and round they go...

The reports are already out there the Cowboys are done with Garrett. That's with them essentially still being able to make the playoffs this year. I guess the plan is to BS people but they are done with him. Only thing left to happen is to let him leave.

Baltimore actually made him an offer and Garrett turned them down to coach the Cowboys. Baltimore can thank their lucky stars.
I do wonder though if Garrett has more success there than here. I can't see it because Harbaugh is a much better coach but he probably should've took that job. Too loyal to this franchise.

It is. But is he going to be able to coach? Is he going to be able to actually run this team the way it needs to be ran?

And I say that becauseI actually think Jerry has taken a step back some and that's probably where his frustration comes in at. He meddles too much still but does meddle even more now in fear of this happening again? I sure hope not.

I think Jerry will trip over himself to appease the new guy, whoever that turns out to be. He saw what happened with Bob McNair. He knows the clock is ticking. He knows that time waits for no one.

He probably would have had more success, with Baltimore. I think John Harbaugh is a better coach, but with us you have Jerry Jones looming very large over the franchise. Jerry is the, great enabler and meddling owner. It’s harder for a good HC to do well here never mind a mediocre HC.

..put it this way. If I had $100 grand to invest in stock. It wouldn't be in JG stock. Everything in life is based on patterns. You look to the past to find a base-rate in between.

This is true. Would've been much easier to work under or with Ozzie.

The man has had 10 seasons to build a team............ while he may not be the ONLY problem, there is no argument to be made that he deserves one more year.

Anyone who thinks he built this team doesn't understand how the Cowboys organization is run. Never said he deserves another year or even game for that matter, but he is in no way the only reason this team is 6-6.
