That was the thinking by Dallas, now whether or not things worked out like they thought is another matter all together. Immediately after he got here it looked like an excellent move, and it still could be.

I've criticized Dallas for roster moves many times, but saying now it was a mistake, if it turns out to be one, is classic 20-20 hindsight...

Most of the players can't, and won't, demand big dollars, they're just not that good. And most teams pay a lot to a few players, like the Saints, and are still contenders.

Besides, don't have much faith in the Cowboys ability to get different players that will do any better, either way we're not going anywhere until JJ is gone, at the earliest...

The Saints draft as well as anyone, have a first ballot HOF QB , and a HOF coach. Bad comparison.

I think Jerry has some convincing to do to show him he wants to improve the coaching and overall team. So far all he's seen is lip service.

If Jerry starts hiring position coaches before a new head coach the we'll all know nothing has changed which is the most likely scenario.

That is especially so this year and will surely be again in 2020. Something's gotta give but this FO usually finds a way to get their stars compensated, on way or another. I could see where we'll rely more upon the younger players than in the past, simply because the budget will demand as much. Some of the older players may be forced to retire earlier than in the past, as well, unless they're considerably more willing to accept lesser contracts than they have in past years. Others who are experiencing down years will be subjected to being cut in favor of playing younger and less expensive players. It might be fairly more commonplace to see young players being tested early and playing sooner than before, due to budget constraints.

We hear constantly about how this team and that team and this other team and some other team that they can't sign so and so for big money because then they can't sign support players. How this team or that team is way over the cap and will lose tons of good players.

And on and on.

But how often does it ever happen? There are myriads of ways to handle the cap, you can't just take a players total salary and divide it by the number of years in the contract and divide that into the cap. Just doesn't work that way, there are bonuses that can be spread out over several years, outs after a couple of years, and on and on. Seems every year the Patriots are "cap strapped" and yet they continue to win Super Bowls.

The "cap casualty" is a myth in many cases, all the hand wringing and dire warnings of teams with one or two or three really high paid players and the rest of the team a bunch of scrubs is not reality...

Cooper wanted to get paid massively from the beginning and he had all the leverage in the world. He’s supposedly pretty intelligent and he knows the market is going to be huge for his services.

The world knows what it’s like for Dak without Cooper. That’s basically how they measure his performance, pre-Cooper and post-Cooper.

Cooper was a desperation move after the “Dak-friendly” offense was a failure and this offense looked the worst it’s ever been, even though WRs were running around free before Cooper got here.

The Cooper move was a PANIC move by Stephen. It was made when commentators were talking about how releasing Dez was a mistake.

49ers and Ravens had some growing pains. Took about 3 years to get to where they are now.

While the Ravens had a rookie QB who started the entire year. Yet the whole coaching staff changed the entire offense to fit Lamar's skills. Notice just about every pass is a play action, bootleg or and RPO. We should run our offense just like the Raven's. But no, Garrett has to do it his way or the highway.

Jason Garrett went 13-3 with a rookie QB and won coach of the year. No team knows what the hell they are doing.

Dak isn't interested. His agency is CAA, which handles the biggest names in Hollywood. They simple don't negotiate for anything but top dollar. They don't budge an inch.

All three want to wait until the new CBA comes out, which is expected to jump the salary cap significantly. Mahomes is expected to land around $50-60 million a year, and CAA wants Dak to wait for that market.

I think it's a dumb risk for Dak. But it does Dallas a favor if he's willing to play under the franchise tag.

i think Jones will ultimately sign here, but not Cooper. I think he's going to negotiate his way out of here.

Dak mentioned that specifically when discussing his contract when Zeke hasn’t signed. He said the new CBA and the introduction of gambling to NFL revenue clearly allows for teams to sign multiple players and nobody really needs to sacrifice.

Ultimately, a lot of what is going to happen is how the NFL players union negotiated the new CBA with the owners.

Gotta sign Dak so we can franchise Amari - I've been saying it all year. Amari is a weird character, I knew this would happen.

We can actually use both the Franchise and Transition Tags this year (last year of CBA). They can retain both without a long term contract if they really want to.

Dak's 'greed'? Last I checked, he doesn't own a piece of the team. Dak - and every other player in the league - should maximize their earnings during their short time in the league.

What is it that you do? Maybe the company you work for could by a new piece of equipment that would make someone else's life easier if you would just take a pay cut and quit being so greedy.

I don’t like Dak as our QB, but I am all for him maximizing his revenue and not buying into the crocodile tears garbage. None of the fans are there for Earl Campbell, when he can’t sleep at night because of all the pain he suffers from.

This idea he needs to sacrifice for the fans or for the team, while guys like Jerry buy 250 million dollar yachts, is a crock of garbage.

That is not how it should have worked. You make Oakland extend him or get permission from Oakland to talk to the player. There is no reason Oakland wouldn't have worked with us given a first round pick on the line.

So now we have no leverage at all, and Amari's agent is well aware of it. We have to overpay Amari or the trade looks foolish.

The Raiders actually put him on the market and he was on the trade block and they received interest from multiple teams.

I've made this debatable several times on this board regarding Cooper possibly departing in FA, and I've sa`
and guys like Fish can keep bringing up the Transitional tags but you don't
see teams playing them on these more elite players that they cannot or refuse to franchise tag.

and I've heard from Whispers from the Star " that the Cowboys team has been fairly upset that they cannot re-sign Dak to that long term, so that they can have the flexibility to
franchise Cooper ... but that's simply out the door now. and Cooper is going to test the market and sell himself to the highest bidder...and I pray it's not the Eagles, that's by far my
biggest fear as reportedly they tried to trade for him before we out-bid for.

and I really believe his camp is going to attempt to become the NFL's highest paid WR.

we lose Amari and we in big trouble...we can lose Jones and not be in near the trouble as losing Cooper....we gave big bucks to Tank and Zeke and some to Smith and Collins....how is that working out?...i posted a thing a few months ago that proves like everytime you pay elite money the people are not ever worth it after that...its a trap ...other than your QB I would be careful who i pay...look patriots...hardly anyone gets big bucks there....draft real good and trade well and pick up decent free agents.....and pay your QB....now we are locked into Tank and Zeke...tank has 5 sacks with 4 games left...Zeke has not broken a 1000 and we are on game 13...Dak has done a lot better overall..but after we pay him big bucks he will go into toilet ....Goff and Wentz got the big bucks and they are playing like crap....the monster DE the bears paid for from Raiders only has 4.5 sacks and he got mega bucks...not worth it to me

I completely agree. I also think that one of the things the Patriots do well is not fall in love with their talent. We as fans don't want to see our favorite players go, but New England often lets them walk before they have to pay them (see Trey Flowers and Trent Brown from last year). I'm pretty sure the fans here would be outraged if they had traded Jaylon, Tank, or Byron away before signing them.

I love Cooper with the Cowboys, but I do think it is worth mentioning he was in no one's top 5 WRs before the trade.

Not for me. I was against the trade from the start, and still think it was a really stupid kneejerk reaction. No hindsight whatsoever here.
