Parcells wanted Shawn Merriman. Jones got Ware, And from what I remember Parcells didn't want Owens, which is why he never called him by name.

No. He wanted to drafted Marcus Spears with the 11th pick because he wanted to take a defensive lineman instead of a pass rusher. This is from USA Today:

During the 2005 NFL draft, coach Bill Parcells wanted to take defensive lineman Marcus Spears with the first of the Dallas Cowboys’ two first-round selections at No. 11. Owner/GM Jerry Jones wanted DeMarcus Ware, a pass rusher from Troy. What makes that dynamic even more interesting is Ware was considered one of the two top pass rushers in the draft, and it was a debate between him and Shawne Merriman of Maryland.

The Cowboys selected Ware, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Cowboys | Sources say Parcells did not want Owens

Wed, 29 Mar 2006 15:43:13 -0800

Gary Myers, of the New York Daily News, reports Dallas Cowboys head coach Bill Parcells was not in agreement with owner Jerry Jones about signing WR Terrell Owens, according to sources. Parcells was absent from the annual NFC coaches breakfast Wednesday, March 29, at the NFL spring meetings in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

There's a good book that covers what happened. Parcells may not have wanted Owens, but he did not protest it and in fact, put Jerry in touch with Owens' agent because he was a good friend. Next thing he knew, Jerry had signed Owens.

Bottom line. Jerry wants credit for the successes of the team. Real simple. All anyone needs to understand him is to review what happened with Jimmy Johnson. He doesn't like to be marginalized as an owner who just writes the paychecks.

This is why he will not hire another coach who is successful and respected throughout the league by staff and players. He did it once with Parcells, but had to take a big back seat and compromise with control of the team. He will not get along with another coach like this. The only coach currently who demands this level of respect is Belichick.

If Belichick was hired, and then we won the SB, that would be Jerry's worst nightmare. He would get zero credit, and Belichick's greatness would only become greater.

Jimmy J even covered for Garrett somewhat. Jimmy showed class... I AM PROUD HE WAS OUR HC. Good man right there...and you can tell he has some regrets about how it all went down with he and Jerry. ALSO..he regrets being so hard on the players..but in the end, he got the desired results. You cannot coach like that nowadays..lol..the league would ban you. Its a soft league.

What did Michael say, that practice was so hard and tough, that games were a breeze.

You can tell he's as frustrated with Jerry, et al as many of us. He talks about what he feels the problem has been the last 20+ years, thinks things have just gotten worse and its refreshing to hear.

Heres the full show (expresses his exasperation around the 5 minute mark):

Troy is right on point in his analysis

Troy should have been hammering on Garrett after all of the 8-8 seasons.

3 8-8 seasons while he was dismantling the team and drafting young players to replace the old ones he was letting go. what are you talking about

Jerry NEVER neutered Jason, until Romo’s contract came around and Dallas was in a position dealing with him on the open market. Even then, he still didn’t completely do it, while tolerating Garrett interfering with Callahan as a play caller, who was also making changes in the offense.

Wade was neutered with Garrett, while Jerry was doing everything in his power to make Jason succeed.

Jason, with his incompetence, forced Jerry’s hands. If it was any other coach, Garrett would have been fired. Jerry even went through multiple defensive coordinators for Jason.

No, I’m actually correct. Jason has COMPLETE control over the offense, including bringing in his own brother John Garrett, promoting him to passing game coordinator in one year and allowing him to force feed the latter’s per project Kevin Ogletree into the line up.

And then Jerry fired Jason's brother against his wishes and took Jason away from the O and named him as over the D.

Gotta finish the story.

.
Jason also wanted to give Murray a big contact, which would have been a mistake. Jerry was making better decisions than Jason in those and other cases.

I still say he's mostly covering for his BFF Jason. He doesn't like Jerry but he didn't defend other coaches the same way.

Yes, Jerry is a problem, but even Troy slipped and admitted how bad the coaching was in the New England game. That part isn't on Jerry unless you somehow believe Jerry is sabotaging punt blocking and kick returns.

Also, he made it sound like fans get impatient and want a new coach every year. It's been a decade of this guy. A decade.
That’s because of Jerry’s agendas not Garretts coaching abilities.

There’s been one constant throughout including some good coaches like Parcells and Wade with no more success than Garrett this era.

I’m not sure why fans only want to single out the last 10 years?

He wanted to keep Murray. Of course. His impact was noticeable.

But I don’t recall Jason specifically saying he wanted to give him a big contract?

And how Jerry handled that off season losing Murray and ultimately tagging them signing Dez was a disaster. We never fielded that core from 2014 again.

Jerry thought Randle would be fine. Lol

You're being obtuse now. Do you think he was going to sign a cheap contract?

Jerry hires the coaches, Jerry decides whether to fire them or not, but how well the coaches do their jobs isn't on Jerry? If Jerry isn't accountable for those hiring decisions, who is?

You're rationalizing because we both know Jerry isn't accountable for anything. That's the problem. Everything else is a symptom.
Yep
Too many Jerry apologist.

Criticism for Garrett is credible but not sure why Jerry isn’t held directly accountable?

Jerry’s even said he’d of fired himself as GM but won’t. Jerry’s toxic dysfunctional situation didn’t begin with Garrett and I suspect won’t end with him.
