Is he? Lewis has a worse winning percentage, is 0-7 in playoff games, and has one COTY award (same as JG).16 years as a head coach and still hasn't won a playoff game. :muttley:

So much for me thinking the grass is greener on the other side. How depressing to hear that the Cowboys are interviewing candidates worse than Garrett.

I guess this is Jerry telling the fan base to be happy with re-signing Garrett. Interview even bigger losers.

Could be Rooney rule. Who knows? That's the problem with that rule. You are creating sham interviews.
But the rule exists because you can't trust the people in power to have a more open mind with the interview process. Maybe things are different more now than when the rule was created, but it's better to have the rule than not have it.

If you're forcing the interview then it's not a real opportunity.

Not one minority coach has ever gotten a head coach gig because the Owner had to interview him because of the Rooney rule.

But I'm not talking about this anymore because I'm pretty sure it's frowned upon here.
No, they might have not been hired right after their token interview, but it adds their name to viable candidate lists on GM radars. The NBA is far ahead of the NFL in this regard.

Dumb way to meet the requirement. Marv is a good guy but are we really interested on someone with an 0-7 playoff record?

Talk to a young coordinator. Pick his brain. Maybe he surprises you. At worst, you've given a rising guy experience interviewing. Sorta the entire spirit of the rule.

Lewis has always been a great Coordinator and did a great job under Edwards, so I bet besides Rooney rule he's getting a feel for coordinators and assistant coaches too. Besides, hasn't Kris Richard's contract expired? If so wouldn't interviewing Richard not count under the Rooney Rule?

My gut feeling is Jerry is going to interview everyone. You will see candidates you don't like, but let's remember Jerry hasn't done this since 2007, so he'll probably go through a lot of interviews. I bet you'll start seeing NCAA coaches next week. I get the feeling you won't see coordinators unless they are eliminated from deep playoff runs.

This has to be a weird situation for Garrett though. I don't know if I could work a contract out under those conditions.

Lewis was in major demand when he was at Baltimore, where he built the best defense of the past 25 years.

I always forget he was the coordinator for that 2000-2001 Ravens team. From a DC perspective, this makes a lot of sense.

Even if Lewis doesn't join McCarthy's staff, I could see him being a senior presence on a staff led by a first-time head coach.

Yes. As someone said before, he would be a great fit for a HC like Lincoln Riley or Dan Mullen (or even Urban Meyer) with no NFL HC experience.

It’s just for formality guys, I don’t think McCarthy or Lewis will be our HC any time soon.

True about McCarthy.

But no coach can win at the highest levels without marque players like Farve or Rodgers.

So I do not hold that as a negative with McCarthy.

If anything as a HC..it requires you to direct that talent well in order to win.

Rodgers if being honest would have to give McCarthy his due towards his own success over the years they were successful together.

Rodgers got Mc Carthy some deserved success.

I like Mike.

He could help us. We could help him if he succeeds in helping us.
Why did he only go to one Super Bowl with those Hall of Fame quarterbacks? He was there a long time.

Defensive Coordinator to pair with Mccarthy... don't see Jerry wanting to go back to 34! Yeah... I'm grasping at straws!

Well when has Dallas run a WCO? McCarthy runs a WCO (he even donated all of the tapes and binders of the WCO to the Green Bay Packers). So a Lewis/McCarthy combination would be huge changes,

He hasnt been a 3-4 guy in a while, and even when he was more of of a Hybrid. Rex Ryan used a variation of his scheme. Lewis defense's in Cincinnati were 4-3's. However he also had Zimmer run the defense.

My question about Lewis as a DC here isn't so much about scheme. Its that it has been so long since he ran and NFL defense. Zimmer ran the defense for as long as Zimmer was in Cincy

It is a head coaching interview. We aren't starting over with a new HC and telling him who to work with. Do you really think a superbowl winning coach or hot shot college guy is going to be interested in a situation where he has a DC forced on him?

Unless said Super Bowl winning coach or hot shot college guy has Lewis on his short list, and Jerry and Stephen decide to bring Lewis in in addition to said hot shot coach.

As been said before, Jerry runs on a different set of rules. Like keeping the existing coach working under contract while he interviews for a new coach. . . .
