Clearly you haven't considered the effects of time travel and the 7th dimension. You simply can't shrink down to that size and expect your eggs to taste the same.

What all you guys need is one of those Ninja Foodis. I'm telling you, it will change your lives...........

1st round need?

Depends on how it falls but yeah, I think so, if the talent warrants the pick. I believe that DT, MLB and WSDE are the three areas of biggest need defensively. Now, who you take in the first round is subject to availability. I mean, if the best CB in the draft is sitting there staring you in the face, then maybe you take that guy but this is really not about the first player we take. It's really more about getting enough talent at each of those positions to turn them into strengths.

At DT, we have at least two guys who can stand up and play the 1Tech but I'd say we need at least one more and I don't believe we have anybody who is really a game changer at the 1Tech. 3Tech, we have no difference maker there. I didn't really see anything from Collins so that's certainly a position that could merit a high draft pick. MLB, we don't have one. Smith is not a MLB. He doesn't have the mentality to fill the whole. He's just not physical enough IMO. This is not to say that he doesn't have talent but I don't believe he is a fit at MLB. I think we gotta go get somebody there, probably in FA to be honest. I feel better at Safety. I feel like we have some young talent and it probably just needs to be developed. We have some vets who, if the front 7 play better, could allow for them to play better as well. That's how I see it.

I never did see Jaylon as an NFL middle l.b. Still cant believe the team did. I do think he can be successful on the outside though where he can use his speed and athleticism.

I agree...as where players fall down to the Dallas slot is conjecture for us at best, now.

I so want the linebackers to dominate, as there is a lot of talent there right now. I agree as to the lack of middle dominance, MLB, despite a lot of talent there. Lee was very good there, as long as he was not injured...and he is invaluable in packages for pass defense. I like the idea of improving at MLB, DE, and DT. Even as far as going first three rounds doing just that.

The problem for him is LVE. They are the same guy, to an extent. If LVE didn't have the neck thing going on, he might be able to transition to MLB but honestly, how smart is it to play him there? He apparently has a degenerative neck condition, I guess. I would never play him at MLB. He's suited to play WOLB and I think it's a mistake to try and play him in the Middle or on the Strong Side. I mean, do you really want to play him at the Strong Side where he probably plays half the Defensive snaps? So maybe you play Smith there but it is a more physical position and he just doesn't to that well. Add to the fact that we gave him a new contract and I honestly don't see a real good solution here. My fear is that he ends up playing MLB and we end up having to find a seriously stout rotation at the DT positions. He's going to have to be covered up and able to run free to the ball carrier. Maybe we should go to the Flex again, LOL......

Of course this means that we are going to have to be able to create pressure off the edge or manufacture pressure through scheme. This is something That Nolan actually does. He uses his LBs creatively to blitz. The problem with Nolan is that after a while, teams figure him out and his defense begins to suffer. This suggest to me that this thing defensively is a kind of all in move from the team. I guess we'll see what happens there.

You know who would be a great signing? Joe Schobert. Huge Badger fan here....joe the show has always been the unsung hero type. Always in the right place at the right time to make the play. Super football IQ as well.

Check out his numbers

psssssst

Joe Schobert, MLB for the Cleveland Browns at NFL.com

Browns' Joe Schobert 'one of best' LBs 'right now' - NFL.com

I like Schobert, I think he's a solid LB but again, I don't know if we will actually upgrade the position with an FA. I mean, I think we should but that would mean that we probably have to make a hard decision with Smith because Schobert's Rookie deal is up and he's probably going to have some money coming his way in FA. That's really the problem to me. If you ask me, we should definitely upgrade at OLB but I don't know if they will. Seriously, that's going to be a real tell tale sign of if this coaching staff has ultimate authority on what's going on, on the field or not.

What is different with this decades old prejudice...you saying that that was a valid addition for discussion? I don't nor do I buy your not already knowing that as well...?
You make assumptions. Incorrect ones at that.
Not worthy additions to this convo that you started.

My body is ready for your retort...
Hit me.

Crawford, Collins, Jelks, Gregory, probably four or five others between free agency and the draft.

Let’s relax and give them time to build this team. If we look like this a week or two before the first preseason game, THEN I’ll panic.

NAW, probably not even then...

Dallas Cowboys: A sobering two-deep defensive look before free agency
https://thelandryhat.com/2020/01/23/dallas-cowboys-defensive-two-deep-free-agency/

DEFENSIVE TWO-DEEP
Left Defensive End – DeMarcus Lawrence, Joe Jackson
Left Defensive Tackle – Trysten Hill, N/A
Right Defensive Tackle – Antwaun Woods, N/A
Right Defensive End – Dorance Armstrong, Joe Jackson
Strong Side Linebacker – Luke Gifford, Chris Covington
Middle Linebacker – Jaylon Smith, Chris Covington
Weak Side Linebacker – Leighton Vander Esch, Chris Covington
Left Corner – Chidobe Awuzie, Deante Burton
Right Corner – Jourdan Lewis, Deante Burton
Strong Safety – Donovan Wilson, N/A
Free Safety – Xavier Woods, N/A

SKELETON CREW ON DECK
Of course there will be multiple signings, re-signings, and draft additions to fill in the holes, but still … wow. Talk about a skeleton crew manning the deck guns.

Three defensive ends and two defensive tackles is scary seeing the 2019 Cowboys roster was carrying 10 players at those positions. Only two of the five remaining were significant factors on the latest defense. Linebacker has four players remaining with only two who played regularly. Covington took 28 defensive snaps and Gifford had zero. It’s worth mentioning Vander Esch will be coming off a concerning neck surgery. Only two starting corners remain while Burton recorded just three snaps. Safety is depleted down to one returning starter, Wilson with his 16 snaps, and zero depth...
Defense sucked anyway. Needs to be overhauled.

Anyone thinking that we’re just going to plop in MM and it will be a one year fix to the Super Bowl is kidding themselves. Scheme changes, coaching staff changes. Most likely year 2 we should have higher expectations.
