Byron Jones the worst in the modern era

Since these stats started in 1970 for corners that played at least 70 games, Jones only has two interceptions. Two folks! Next on the list has 5 in that span. He hasn’t had an int in two years as well. Mind boggling.
And none of us know is it the result of the defensive scheme, coaching or him not aggressive enough to get an int. He is still rated by the NFL as a top five cornerback so pretty obvious that we fans do not know everything. Dallas would be smart to sign Dak and Amari before March 10th and franchise Jones then if some team is willing to part with 2 1st round pick, you take it.

We absolutely know that defensive scheme is a huge reason why INT totals are low. No CBs get picks when they a) play press-man or b) are in a scheme where the opposing QB knows where everyone is going to be.

I find it mind boggling that so many fans say we have one of the most “talented” rosters but outside the O line they think they are all easily replaceable, talk trash about most players on the team and want to let our best players walk.

Add to that how many supported the Zeke contract which is the most easily replaceable position on the team, especially with this O line.

That is what’s mind boggling.

You can snicker all you want. You said, specifically, "no one goes after Gilmore." They do, more often than they go after Jones.

I never said Byron was better or as good. If you pay attention, I already said that Gilmore is the best corner in the game.

So you’re trolling? I don’t get it. My point is I heard the stat from Moore and was mind blown. Byron is clearly our best corner no doubt. But to pay him as a non playmaker is ridiculous. If he would take 8 mil I would be all for it. But he still won’t be able to intercept the ball. We have far too many needs and playmakers on D is a huge need.

So 15-18 mil for one that hasn’t had an Int in two years?
Whatever the FO and Jones work out. Salary is not something fans should feel entitled to dictate. Are you as concerned with Lawrence being the highest paid player and only having half a dozen sacks, while at the same time ignoring every single other defensive statistic?

The irony of this post.

My point is that the stat is stupid b/c he's only played corner for 32 games
My other point is that INT totals is a dumb way to evaluate CBs.
My other other point is that they system they play makes it impossible for CBs to consistently make plays, so saying "he still won't be able to intercept the ball" is completely baseless.

I don’t care what they get paid, I’m a fan. But if it cost me Amari or a stud DT/Safety FA no thanks. I want to win and getting TO’s helps that.

By all accounts pretty much everyone in the know says teams schemed Lawrence out of games and that is probably why Robert Quinn was ear holing QB's all season.

I don't want to lose Amari either. If we keep Dak then Amari Cooper is a must unless they move up for Jeudy who is similar to Amari.

Anyways... How many championship teams are investing that kind of money into WR's?

Championship teams have at least 2 of these 3 things cheap QB, quality coaching, and a great defense.

Highly paid RB's? Championship teams don't do that...

Highly paid WR's? In the Salary cap Era elite WR's aren't winning titles.

Defense, quality QB play for a discount, and coaching...

I like Dak... I just don't like paying him like he is one of the best players in football.

If I went to the store and bought something I wouldn't want to pay a 100 dollars for the 10th best item when the best item costs 90..

I need to see times targeted.

I think if there was a cornerback draft right now and all things were equal that Ramsey would be the #1 corner taken and he's getting like 2 or 3 picks a year.
Ramsey and Jones are not in the same conversation.

Dlaw was a tackling machine against the run which isn’t a glamour stat. Quinn was awful against the run, but might have the quickest step I’ve seen since Ware. Maybe even better in fact.

I think they are..

If a guy is not being thrown at and he is a physical freak on top of that then I think he belongs in that conversation.

IS Ramsey better? Sure.. But Byron is no slouch.

The problem with Dallas fans is we pay too close attention to our players and see their warts but we think the grass is always greener on the other side.

NFL DB's are at such a disadvantage because of the rules and Byron has managed to shut down the teams best WR's within those rules.

I get your point and hate that he’s gonna cost so much at the risk of other toys. But having said that I would like to see what Mike thinks first. GB might have been limited in a lot of areas all those years but not at WR. Mike loves him some WR’s. Generally had at least 5 that could play.

Quinn is like Dwight Freeney quick. It's awesome to see.

You don't care but then say you do , if it costs other players? Without knowing what the cap room or cost of said players is?
