lol Romo is mexican
Lay off the stuff. Now we all know good and flipping well unless you know that people aren't readily saying that about Romo. If you even bothered watching the clip you'd get what the person was saying also. People always commenting and not reading/watching what they commenting on first smh.

I think they need to sign Dak, but what he is saying is nonsense.

Romo didn't demand ridiculous money like Dak is. Just because Dak has played well etc, doesn't mean you have to make him the highest-paid QB in the league.

Dak is overplaying his hand in my opinion.
Romo received what was, and still is, the richest contract in Dallas Cowboys team history

His 2013 contract was 108m total and contained the most guaranteed money in NFL history

Neither Zeke nor D-Law signed a bigger deal and that was 7 years ago!

Rodgers deal, signed the same year (2013), was for 110m, just 2m across the entirety of his deal

The story that Tony was some “aww shucks, pay my o-line, I would play for free because I just want to win”, kinda guy is totally bogus

I was a huge Tony Romo fan. I still am. I love me some Romo, but if you’re going to try to use him against Dak in some way, at least get the facts straight.

For the sake of comparison

  • In 2016, Romo accounted for 14% of the Cowboys salary cap
  • 2020 cap is projected to be 200m
  • Let’s say Dak gets 35m, that’s 17%
  • There won’t be a 35m hit though. QB deals are always structured with huge singing bonuses that spread the impact across the contract
  • Russell Wilson, 35m - last year, the first year of his new deal, he only counted 26m against the cap
  • A similarly structured contract for Dak would make him account for 13% of the cap, less than Romo did in 2016

Heck, i remember they made Romo play the ENTIRE preseason one year to "prove himself". Don't think Dak has had to do that yet.

His agent is being ridiculous. I don’t blame the Jones’s at all if his demands are in the $35 million per year area as reported. I wouldn’t sign him for that either.

When did that happen?

Romo played in four preseason games twice
  • 2006 - Drew Bledsoe was the starting QB and Romo played in all four pre-season games. He had never thrown a pass in the NFL until that preseason. He didn’t throw a TD in any of them, but he did look good in his first start. This was the season when Bledsoe’s flamed out and Romo was promoted to starter in week 8
  • 2010 - The only reason he played in four games that year was because the league invited the Cowboys to play in a fifth game, the Hall of Fame Game. Romo did not play in the fifth and final preseason game
Your memory must be better than mine because I didn’t remember 2006 a “prove it” year. The guy had never thrown an NFL pass and the starting QB was 35 years old and in his 14th season. Maybe Parcells wanted to see if Romo could do anything but hold a clipboard on the sideline which was the closest he had gotten to the field for three years. Anyway, that’s what backups who have never played a game do. They play in the preseason.

Now, surely you weren’t referring to 2010. If so, then you, my friend, smoke crack. By that point, Romo has been a three time pro bowler and had just led the Cowboys to an 11-5 record and their first playoff win since 1996!!! He was far past needing to prove anything.

I think it's going to be $34

Its one of the lowest things that can be done but its interjected to derail a debate or silence an opinion they don't approve of. Its lazy at best or sinister at worst

Since you posted this...Stephen A Smith (again, who I do not like) is stating the truth. It is bad optics.

Race is optical. He paid Aikman who had 2 years left on his rookie contract before winning a Super Bowl and before Emmitt who contract ended. He paid Romo and extension on his rookie deal before he was a starting QB. He did not extend Dak after year 1 (13-3 Pro Bowl NFC East Champ) in year 2 (9-7), 3 (10-6 Pro Bowl NFC East Champ, Playoff win), or before year 4 (8-8, Pro Bowl) and started negotiations asking Dak to give a Billionaire a discount.

The above is BAD OPTICS:

Dan Marino had an 8-10 playoff record. His playoff teams rushed for an average of 53 yards per game, while the defense surrendered an average of 34.5 points per game.

Ergo, Dan Marino didn't have much playoff success or deep playoff runs too...........and is clearly not top 5 either
I was just thinking about Marino. Yeah, he went to the SB as a rookie, lost, never came close to getting back. He's considered an all time great and I don't disagree. People say, "He needed more help. " But Romo gets no credit, when the Cowboys lose, "Romo choked!" He didn't need help? Flacco's not that good to me, Eli neither...but they had great defense. Romo led GW drives with the best of them...it takes a TEAM! And good coaching, which we didn't have and I believe was why we can't win.
