As much as I don't like giving running backs big money in general, you really can't hang a team's win-loss record all on the running back. That's just mental.

Chris Johnson hit 2,000 yards one year and his team went 8-8, was he a bum too?

Running back is a disposable postion in todays game, wouldn't spend a first round pick on one nor give five year extension on one and ridiculous money either...

Yeah I think we are overpaying. Look around the league and see teams that have spent less on TBs that still field good running games and go further than we did. People have convinced themselves that the only way we can get a good running game is through Elliott. I think that's a flawed argument.

Well mind you......Zeke represents when teams started taking running backs early again.

Fournette, Barkley, McCaffery....they are going to break the bank. Like I said I wouldn't have done it but I also don't like the approach that the Patriots are taking and just drafting guys in there. I want someone more stable than that. At least for a good 5 years.

It's common football sense.

I think they just knew Jason Garrett and his schemes were so bad that they had to build a team to impose their will and not really out coach teams and that is how we ended up with all of the investments on the OL and RB.

I just don't like paying big money to RB's. Hoping Zeke makes sure he earns his contract for us.

A lot of RB’s would have similar success behind this O line and he disappears in big games. Nice to see him rack up garbage yards against garbage teams but that doesn’t win championships.

Gurley is so much worse than Zeke as a signing (and now as a player, in general) because his knees were exposed as being made of crushed gravel before he even made it through the year he got it lmao

For everything that the Cowboys do wrong under Jerry, that was a next level contract botch.

No, because he didn’t sit out with two years left on his contract and demand to be paid as the highest RB. I’m also not so sure he had a top 5-10 O line his entire career nor was he the giant headache off the field that Zeke is.

they traded HOPKINS who easily could get 2 first for Johnson and a 2nd and still got 4th back.. they still wanted a starting RB and gave up a lot to get it..you are looking at it back wards..lol

its wasnt a bad signigntoo bad you FEEL that way..zeke deserved it.. get past it hes here Not injuured like Johnson and Gurley and not MIA like Bell..he had a solid year and wasn't even utilized to his full potential..SMH..freakin haters..

Simple to me....draft one every four years in round 3-5, and never, under any circumstance, in the first round.

Last year was another SB run, so Jerry caved, as he will this year with Prescott.

I dont at all see how this round of "triplets" does enough to overcome the idea that we wont be able to afford a defense.

DTackles dont do well in the gift shop though.

For them to cut him now would be stupid. Not saving much cap space. They should ride him until after the 2021 season and then cut him.

Here's what is wrong with the CBS article. If a team really wants to trade a player and if they privately decide that if worse come to worse would just release that player, they wouldn't make that part public especially when the player has a big contract. Teams can just say they'll just wait until he's released and even if there's a little bidding for him it will still be cheaper than the contract he already has. So by making it public that they will release that player they just shut down trading prospects. Now I realize that CBS is quoting another sportswriter from NFL.com which probably means that it's just speculation to start out with.
