So, how did we get to the point where a player who's been absent for four seasons due to an NFL ban suddenly get to suit up for Jerry Jones? Well, it's because while Jones gave the final green light, it wasn't him pounding the table for the signing. That fist belonged to newly-hired defensive line coach Jim Tomsula, with the blessing of head coach Mike McCarthy, I'm told.

very likely. Tomsula has probably spoken with smith recently.

Two decisions that were wrong in retrospect. Doesn't help your case. Factor in Hill, and they're 0-3 lately.

Like I said, I'm not taking it retrospect, I'm looking at it from the aspect of who they took at the time. Because there's no way to know if your number one pick will pan out like you hope, the history of the NFL is chock a block full of failed "sure fire" number one picks.

And Hill just got here, can't throw someone in the trash pile after playing only one year.

And HIll wasn't a first round pick, Cowboys didn't have a first round pick, sure he was their first pick in the draft, but by the time he got picked most of the really top players were gone, as in any draft.

Great.......

Now I gotta listen to SAS talk stuff about the Cowboys and this signing. The hell of it is that he's right. We are going to end up in exactly the spot he suggests over this.

So am I. We disagreed with them then too. This isn't revisionist history.

He's a bust to this point in time. We can certainly assess him based on the information we have to this point. None of it good.

Yes, he was their first pick in the draft. And just like Taco vs TJ Watt, people made the same correct call to draft Thornhill - who was available - instead of Hill. It's not "retrospect" when people were right at the time.

you were unable to understand after you checked google. sorry, i'm not being paid to tutor you in English. you are being literally obtuse. or at the very least the literal definition of obtuse.:)

not to mention putting the word "literally" in front of "obtuse" is pointless. you can just say "obtuse." we have an English genius right here.

Actually, you don't.

I think sas is funny. he doesn't realize it but he's a skip Bayless wannabe.

Different strokes for different folks.

I can't listen to someone clearly portraying an act who can't even bother to know what they're talking about. Why would I listen to a guy who knows less about the NFL than I do?

Guy is a fraud.

It's unfathomable that anyone would want to be Skip Bayless. I can't even force myself to listen to Skippy or SAS. They are pure tabloid in an annoying package.

I listen to him, though rarely, for comedic relief. just like when he comes to dallas with the 10 gallon hat and boots. I don't take him seriously at all.

I choose not give ratings or attention to frauds.

I have actively chosen to avoid ESPN programming for everything save for Monday Night Football, which I can't get anywhere else. But if the rumored move back to ABC does happen, I will never watch ESPN again. I know what they are and they became the National Enquirer of sports, selling scandal and controversy instead of love of sports.

.

It's a nearly universally held view that you can't judge draft picks for 3 years, I do not agree we can assess him as yet. Remember lots of people were saying Randy White was a bust, even after 2 years, they totally ignored the fact that he was playing out of position, but still he was judged a bust.

So we disagree there.

Maybe I should clarify what I meant by "recent" in my original post, I'm going back farther than 2016, since it takes more than a couple of years for a player to have enough time in the league to be considered really really good, or great. Cliff Harris isn't in the HOF because he retired early, if he'd stayed in the league and had a few more Pro Bowl or highly successful years he'd very likely be in the HOF, for example. So length of service is important.

So going back to 2010, we have Dez, T. Smith, Frederick, Martin, B. Jones and Zeke who clearly were good picks, and some great picks. That's 6 of the 10, which is "mostly". And Hill as I have said hasn't been here long enough to tell, he could still turn out to be pretty good, we (not you obviously) can't tell yet. If he works out, that's 7 of 10.

Obviously we don't have the same view, but no issue there.

Well got gardening to do, later everybody...

There is no risk with this signing at all. No guaranteed money and much higher reward possibility with bonuses if it pans out.

We have seen cases like this in the past where players with a past history of abuse or addictions pan out when they have resurrected they careers. Some have gone on to stellar careers.

People that are hating this signing should look no further then Charles Haley. There was alcohol abuse, medication abuse, bipolar disorder and mental illness issues for this star as well. But when given the correct treatment and support he flourished. The Dallas Cowboys did this for him, as they are doing for Gregory and now Smith.

I like the signing. Hope him nothing but the best which in turn with not only help him life but the Cowboys as well.

Was Randy White inactive all season, late for meetings and falling asleep during them? If so, good comp, if not, not a good comp.

I'm not taking the 20-20 hindsight view, just looking at who they picked at the time, Taco was at least somewhat a "project", so to me that was a bad pick from the get-go, Cowboys don't have time to "develop" a first round pick.

Supposedly they checked out LVE's neck and found no problem with it, and it was a pretty sure bet he'd be able to start right away, if for no other reason than his size, so I'm sticking with my comment...
Also considering that LVE himself saying he never had neck problems in college I think a lot of it is false narrative
