Jets third stringers don't really excite me.We did sign a veteran CB, Maurice Canady.
I think slot WR is a possibility, but CB was covered by re-signing Brown. With Lewis, Awuzie and Brown, I believe the team feels CB isn't an obvious, glaring need. I don't agree with that, but I can see the team feeling that way.
For what it's worth, if the team sees an expanded role for Pollard, then it might not believe slot WR is a glaring need, either.
I agree, I’ve had a few chances in my life, all pretty minor stuff but I could have easily not had the job I do now if it weren’t for second chances but not only did all of my “incidents” occur within a couple years but at some point enough is enough. This dude has had enough. It’s his fourth chance. I don’t have a problem with someone recovering from alcohol or drug problems getting second chances. But domestic violence? That’s where I don’t like this move.
Aldon Smith’s mountain of legal issues (from yahoo sports)
Here’s a rundown of the breathtaking amount of off-field issues Smith has encountered since entering the NFL:
- arrested in Jan. 2012 for driving under the influence
- stabbed in a house party in June 2012, was later charged for illegal possession of an assault weapon from the incident
- arrested in Sept. 2013 for DUI and marijuana possession after a single-vehicle accident, later left the Niners during the season to enter rehab
- arrested in April 2014 for a fake bomb threat at Los Angeles International Airport, later suspended nine games by the NFL
- arrested in Aug. 2015 for DUI and hit-and-run, was released by Niners a day later, then given year-long NFL suspension
- arrested in March 2017 as the passenger in a DUI after a collision with a police car
- sentenced to rehab in Sept. 2017 for the 2015 DUI
- arrested in March 2018 on charges of misdemeanor charges of domestic violence, assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, false imprisonment and vandalism after his fiancee called 911 and said he threw her around the room, bit her wrists and drank two bottles of tequila before fleeing from police (he later blew a .40 BAC)
- released by the Raiders two days after domestic violence arrest
- arrested in March 2018 for violating a court order to stay away from his accuser
- arrested in April 2018 for violating his bail
- pleaded guilty to charges of false imprisonment and violating a court order in domestic violence case in Nov. 2018
- arrested in June 2019 for DUI
Can we safely say Secondary will be a focol point in the draft like it should be?
2cbs a safety and a tweener type player who could play either?
This would be very smart...
It’s not concerns other then a possible distraction. Smith and zeke will make a fine pairing out on the town. It’s just laughable, literally. This is why the Cowboys stay relevant and why Jerry is a great promoter but horrible GM.So, considering there is zero guaranteed money, and therefore no risk to the team. What are the concerns?
Is this a case of taking the moral high ground? Is there some sort of social justice at work?
Those are the only positions that I suppose might make sense for some people, but I would suggest those folks might want to look to their own lives, friends and families before they throw too many stones.

Just more of Jerry’s shenanigans trying to keep the crowd fed and the hype machine rolling. Mission accomplished by the ring master himself. Well done Jerry, well done
I’m not one to give people second chances? Did you even read the post you quoted me on? Let’s try again.Give me a break. I feel sad for you that you are not one to give people with issues chances. Although some like yourself will point at Jerry and his shenanigans. I point at him as a good person. Yes some may think this always points to bottom line, and you may indeed be right.
But in the end, Smith or Gregory haven't killed anyone. Yes they have their addictions and have made bad choices in their lives to this point. But they are not trash like some of you are making them out to be.
Good on Jerry and the Cowboys for giving these talents a chance continuously. I would be all for them giving Kapernick a contract as well. Why not. They all deserve to work if they have rehabbed or gotten better. Work for some is rehab!!!!
Give me a break people
There is no risk with this signing at all. No guaranteed money and much higher reward possibility with bonuses if it pans out.
We have seen cases like this in the past where players with a past history of abuse or addictions pan out when they have resurrected they careers. Some have gone on to stellar careers.
People that are hating this signing should look no further then Charles Haley. There was alcohol abuse, medication abuse, bipolar disorder and mental illness issues for this star as well. But when given the correct treatment and support he flourished. The Dallas Cowboys did this for him, as they are doing for Gregory and now Smith.
I like the signing. Hope him nothing but the best which in turn with not only help him life but the Cowboys as well.
I still tend to think that Smith's 30 year old body isnt going to do what his 25 year old football brain wants him to do.It’s annoying to me how often we go into the burn pile for players. We miss way more often than we hit.
That said, this guy was awesome and while I don’t like how long he’s been out, he’s still young enough for maturity to have set in while still being able to get “it” back.
We’ll see.
They are basically throwing crap at the wall at this point and hoping something sticks. This guy is not Charles Haley and never was. This, coming from, very possibly, the biggest fan on this board of this player when he was coming out of the draft. I wanted this guy really bad when he came out. And BTW, he's a much better stand up LB then he is a DE, keep that in mind. He is not and never ever was Charles Haley. So anybody who has it in their mind that he is going to translate into that, even if he is successful beyond anybodies wildest dreams, is looking at this over optimistically. At best, what we will get with Smith is a rotational player that might be able to come in and give you a few snaps a game, for as long as he can stay healthy. It looks like to me, the Cowboys intend to use Crawford, Gregory and Smith as a rotation at End and hope that between the three of them, they can cover the position. That, to me, is really a shame because we are wasting DLaw. DLaw is going to continue to see doubles and triples and post the same types of numbers that we saw last year. This, after paying the guy stupid money to be the pass rush threat this team so desperately needed. So this really isn't just about the 4 mil or so we are offering to Smith, this actually impacts DLaw and his situation as well. Maybe we draft somebody, IDK. All I know is that we really need Armstrong or somebody to step up and own this job so that we can get away from this idea that we can bring in guys to play for a year. Smith is not Quinn and he's not going to be able to generate pressure like Quinn did. Smith is not that guy at DE. He's really a 34 fit IMO.
Yup. At some point you gotta man up and cut your crapp and start acting like an adult. And at his age, it's way past time.I agree, I’ve had a few chances in my life, all pretty minor stuff but I could have easily not had the job I do now if it weren’t for second chances but not only did all of my “incidents” occur within a couple years but at some point enough is enough. Yeah, I agree. To me this is a nothing signing. I'm not excited or depressed about it, don't really care all that much. They are basically throwing crap at the wall at this point and hoping something sticks.
They were so down on DL talent due to the last regime that they probably needed to do that.
I dont expect much of this, and he may not even make the team. This has injury settlement written all over it.
I mow lawns, I'm essential!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And we waste a ton of time. This, to me, is this Franchise in a nut shell. It's the biggest weakness they have. They spend tons of money on flash players and grab scrap heap to fill in and they end up wasting really talented, generational quality players. Instead of building around them, they just try and piece it together and we get what we get.
Some might say that this is the modern NFL and perhaps that's correct. I just feel like there is a better way to do this. But hey, what do I know? I'm stuck in my house for the last few weeks and the next few weeks at least right?
