Broaddus to Stephen Jones: "If you love Dak so much why doesn't he have a deal?"

Because they saw and see him when Zeke was suspended for six games, Tyron Smith is out and Cooper wasn’t here...
That was his sophomore quarterback year. Now 3 years ago. What about his current play? If he keeps up 85% of it he’ll far and wide be the best cowboys quarterback from a statistical standpoint.

Pretty sure we KNOW why with the whole longer deal vs shorter deal thing.

Awful question by Broaddus.

Do we REALLY need to rehash all this again?

on the contrary, fivetwos .... i thought Broaddus asked a question that is still on the minds and curiousity of countless many.
All of these NF Lteams like Watson- Texans, Wentz and Philly, Wilson and Seattle, ..Goff- Rams , Grapp- Niners, etc, etc.
Bottom line is key NFL teams are managing to successfully re-signing, re-upping their franchise cornerstone QB .. but yet supposedly the most popular
polarized NFL team in all of sports is Not managing

but i get the feeling that some disgruntles want it a " Dak just needs to agree with whatever the team throw at him and be done with it "

and i think the Jones tend to be too stuck on this " Deadline make Deals " .. waiting til the last moment with time winding down to get the advantage on
negotiations til a fault to where supposedly time ran out according to reports per Jane Slater .. as compare to the utter time of negotiations that they had
in the entire offseason to come to terms. Since it failed on its face i would tend to wonder if Stephen Jones is finally re-considering the contract strategics on the next time around come next offseason.

Jerry didn't understand it. Stephen does. He's among the best contract guys and cap managers in the biz.
How do we know that? What has it produced?

Wouldn't he have been able to find a way to make it work for both Dak and the organization. He cited stats... "If the contract is blah blah percent of the overall blah blah".....innovative minds find a way. I'm not saying it's over, Stephen could very well turn it completely around. That's one aspect of building a team. If Stephen wanted to prove he was smart then he would hire a legitimate GM when it is his turn to run everything.

Gotta admit, because I work contractual exclusively (and they generally are for "big money" with all sorts of things including insurances and outs for the contract writer) that you definitely need professionals to dot the i's and cross the t's and there are a lot of both.

And I mean a lot of tiny details that most people cross their eyes while reading over that could be devastating for the person being contracted if they don't get it right and understand all that they have been contracted for.

Of course Jerry hires professionals to write contracts. But he specifies the money terms. Scaling pay to the cap is not a conceptual problem.

one thing though mahomes isnt making that much yet.
and none of those qb's and their teams got close to a SB last year. Rams and Pitt didnt even make playoffs.
GB did get close, but they were shown to be lacking in the SF game where they got blown out.

This supports my theory that once you pay your qb these high rates over 30 mil you are not going to a SB, so what is the point in paying them??
Now mahomes is good enough that maybe he can get his team back to a SB once he starts eating a big chunk of the KC cap, but maybe not.
Right now KC still has basically all the talent they had last year, and maybe even added to it, but once that contract kicks in,
they wont be able to keep all that talent, then we will see how mahomes does on a team with less talent, because his contract will make the
team as a whole less talented.

I can say right now that aside from mahomes none of these QB's you listed will get close to a SB this year.
Seattle or GB might make it to nfc champ game but there they will be beaten soundly.

So once they sign dak to big deal, you can forget any cowboy SB, except there may be a tiny window before they start losing talent
that it could happen.
This season is prime time for dallas to win a SB, and they might have another year or 2 if they sign dak where they might be able to
get there again.
however if they go for another cheaper or rookie QB or say dinucci could be the next brady, then they can keep a strong team for years.
You may be right about how it can cost the team by paying so much for Dak, but you also could be doubly wrong to think a much cheaper and lesser QB like DiNucci could lead the team to a SB. DiNucci was let go by Pitt for a reason. DiNucci might be decent, but he's no Dak. You guys complain that Dak couldn't carry the team last season against those above .500 teams in which the Cowboys lost close games, so what makes you think DiNucci could lead the team to wins during same scenarios? Pfft, get real now. He can't because he's not as talented as Dak. That's real talk. So there is a reason why paying Dak could outweigh going the cheap but lesser talented route when it comes to the most important position on this team.

ok there are 2 schools of thought,
1.pay dak he is long term guy will get us to SB victory.
2.Dont pay Dak and find a viable cheaper QB , or a high round draft pick ,so QB on a rookie deal.

Neither one is for sure the best way to go or the right way to go.

Because you cant do both, so will always wonder where the other would have led.

So it is just a matter of opinion on which one is the right way to go.

Also I never said Dinucci would lead cowboys to SB, I do like him, but again if he never gets to play hard to say what he might have done.

Also dont worry jones boys dont have the courage to try another QB they will eventually pay dak whatever he wants,
Dak would have to do really bad this year to not get what he wants, and I doubt he will be that bad.
I do want to see dak play with current coaches, and see if he still has same flaws and tendencies.

I'm not worried. I know Dak is going to get paid and remain in Dallas for many years to come.

I will say this, I think Houston made a mistake extending Watson before seeing what he is like this year without watkins or is it hopkins lol.
I think that wr made watson look better than he really is. They may make playoffs , but will have an early exit.

From putting all the pieces together we have a pretty good idea of the best deal offered. In the range of $175-180 million over 5 years with circa $110-115 million guaranteed.

It would be nice to know what Prescott would like over 4 years.

I'm a little surprised that one year is so much of an issue for Prescott - not a criticism of him and maybe i'm being naive in terms of the timeline. Is something specific happening in 4 years time in terms of coverage rights/deals? I get the whole angle that he wants a raise etc but he will only be 32 years old after a 5 year contract and should be in a position for another massive contract regardless.

From Prescott's perspective by delaying signing the contract then given the duration of the contract will either be 4-5 years then he's seemingly expecting a higher offer regardless at the end of this season. In reality, will the Cowboys increase their offer after a financially hit season? It strikes me that if Prescott doesn't budge on length of years of the contract then he's pretty content to move elsewhere for more money or if the Jones boys pay over the odds then we will be losing some players at the end of this season.
It was 5/$175 woth only $105 or $106 guaranteed which was a trash guarantee less than goff's. Youve been told this numerous times stop with the misinformation

Which will be the same issue eventually with Dak. Can't sign Gallup. CeeDee either.
stephen might have to let cooper go his own way, but he's not giving up gallup or the lambo. cooper's contract is structured just such a way that he won't cost us after two years. same for zeke's deal. people just don't get how good stephen is at his job.

We do not know the exact offer. Reading around and piecing together what was actually said by Stephen/Jerry the offer was circa $35-$36 million a season. Some reports had the guaranteed money at $111 million. Again neither of us know and we aren't exactly $50 million apart over a 5 year deal!

Misinformation? In my post I stated the offer was in the range of $175-$180 million over 5 years. You stated it was $175 over 5 years!

So here is a question for you - would you rather we lost Amari Cooper and paid Prescott what he wants?

The whole point is that the front office want to keep quality players around Prescott. We all saw Watson without Hopkins on Friday. This obviously looked even worse because he also has a trash o-line but the same point applies.

We already lost Byron Jones to pay Prescott and the front office didn't want to lose Cooper as well.

Cooper is already under contract for two seasons whether we pay Dak or not. In two years Gallup's contract will be up and he will likely command $20 million as well so the Cowboys have that choice regardless. They aren't paying 2 receivers $20 million +.

And to keep a competing team together, a longer contract is needed. This was a derdeedee moment for Dak and his agent, who obvioiusly doesn't care about winning.

I read they had a handshake deal last September. If that's the case. Play him 1 more year on the tag and walk away from him...Draft a QB and let McCarthy develop him. Dak is NOT elite. He has to be surrounded by all pros. Imagine if Romo had these weapons this early on in his career...
