Didn’t Barry get taken off the field in short yardage situations?
Yes he did.....regularly.

Emmitt’s balance was also unmatched. It’s another great attribute for a back.I liked watching Sanders and would watch them play just because of him. It wasn't the long TD runs is was those plays where he's water bug all over the backfield for 40 yards and gain 2. It was just the most unusual running style I had ever seen and many is the All Pro defender that he left grabbing air.
Sanders is right, Emmitt was far more patient and his OL loved him for helping them set up blocks. That was what he and Dorsett shared, they were two of the best ever in setting up blocks and it was a thing of beauty to watch. Just great vision.
This is a Cowboy fan site, so whenever this topic comes up, we get the home team slantJust ask the guys who played the game. They'll tell you who was better.
Diamond amongst trashEmmitt was clearly talented with scrubs around him.
Yeah, when he went into the NFL they were playing 12 games a season, and by his last year they played 14.
Lomg story short: Sanders was a better tailback. Smith was a much better football player.
Barry would have gotten Troy killed, Emmitt was a dynamic blocker.Emmitt was perfect for the Cowboys in the 90’s. His ability to get positive yards and put games away just ground down our opponents
if Barry had been here instead, we still win those Super Bowls and his career would probably have been longer and his profile would have been even more elevated than it is. He would have provided more trouble for opponents than Emmitt imo.
Hate to say it but give me Sanders
I believe that we likely would not have two of the three super bowls we currently have had we had Barry instead of 22.Barry would have gotten Troy killed, Emmitt was a dynamic blocker.
Yeah also when Jim Brown went into the NFL they were playing with 190 pound linebackers and 200 pound linemen. Jim was great but a lot of his competition was on par with modern day junior college ball. All things must be considered in context.
This is ridiculous. Emmitt has the all time record for TD's by a running back, you can't get any better than that. Emmitt didn't get caught behind a lot. So ridiculous what you are saying here and not true at all.I always wished Emmitt had the pure breakaway speed Barry did. If he did, Emmitt would’ve had way more TDs and yards then he did. He got caught from behind a lot.
walter payton
tony dorsett
eric dickerson
emmitt smith
the 4 greatest running backs of my fandom...in chronological order.
Barry was the better runner.
Emmitt was the better running back.
Line play was generally pretty good for Barry it was QB play that was inconsistent. Scott Mitchell was really good a couple years. Erik Kramer was solid at times other than that the QB play or Detroit was poor. Also Herman Moore was one of the top receivers of the early to mid 90s. Maybe not at Irvin's level but that was partially because QB play was bad. But Moore had a 6 year span where he had 8300 yards and 57 TDs He was probably not at the Cris Carter/Rice/Irvin maybe even Sterling Sharpe level in the 90s but he's not that big a step down either. As Nate Newton would say, "I was just a fat guy until Emmitt Smith showed up."
Sander's OL in Detroit had a couple pro bowlers on it when he showed up (Lomas Brown & Kevin Glover).
He was better on a garbage team. They’d be wrong. The people that think Sanders was better is simply because he was a “prettier” runner. He made more spectacular runs, but he was not better.
