Twitter: Convince Me Why Micah Parson Should Not Rush The QB 90% Of The Time

why would you only want to rush him from the edge when he has more threat coming from the LB position and lining up anywhere he or Quinn sense as a weakspot on the opposing Dline.

makes no sense to rush him as a rotational dline edge...dlaw and gregory don't play 100 percent of snaps. playing him at lber keeps him on the field and as a bigger threat.

He started the season looking very good. Had 2-3 games where he seemed to be in the QB's face time after time. For whatever reason that tapered off as the season wore on. But he was just a rookie, so I'm hoping we see him take another step forward this year.
I think you have to have a grounded perspective of a DT. (Not you). Sometimes you don't even remember seeing DTs unless you specifically look. That being said, it's been a REAL long time since I remember one having a good game playing for Dallas. Last season's 2nd, Philly game. Watch him in that game. Pretty impressive. Plus it helps to have others around you.
12 starts from a 3rd rounder is good. He beat out other players to be the starter. I'm with you; I hope he takes a step forward and maybe we have a decent DT tandem.

Micah should be rushing the passer, every time it’s an “obvious” passing down. And sometimes more.

I don’t know the exact percentage.

I don’t want him at DE necessarily to do it all though. He can rush the passer from anywhere on the field. That’s part of what makes him so special.

He has speed and bend around the edge. Yet he is still able to beat guards inside with his short area quickness, strength and ability to shed a blockers punches.

Watt isn't a DE though.

Watt played 758 snaps last year in 14 games.
Parsons played 904 snaps last year in 16 games.

So, if Watt played 16 games like Parsons did then he would have probably ended up with about the same amount of snaps as Parsons.

The last season Watt played 16 games he had 935 snaps. So, I don't believe Parsons is going to suffer at all playing like Watt.

I believe if you play Parsons the way Pittsburgh plays Watt then he's a 20 sack guy easily.

I see a lot of comparisons to watt.

to me he also very closely resembles Von Miller. They are almost identical from a physical ability standpoint.

All I can think of is the story about McClay, and the Cowboys moving up to draft Tank in the 2nd.

I think the terms used to decribe McClays's strong desire for Tank was a passionate reply of"He's a QB hunter."

I am not a huge Tank fan. But based on last year's film of Parson's, there is no more accurate description than Quarterback Hunter after watching Parson's elite skills.

Dan Quinn should continue to use anything and everything in his DC toolbox in order to utilize this generational talent's pass rushing skillset.

Anything less is shortchanging the team AND the player.

watching Micah rush the passer is like watching a lion, with the speed of a cheetah, chase down a gazelle.

it’s a sight to behold.

Absolutely. Great description and I love your avatar as well.
Sometimes when watching slow-mo film of him last year it was as though the film had been sped up.
The kid is even fast in slow-mo! lol

Because he covered Barkley coming out of the backfield and stopped a potential TD. Any other LB and that was an easy TD and possibly momentum changing play.

Limiting a player to doing only one thing 90% of the time, because he's great at it, is rather dumb when he is great at other things to. He can rush the passer, he can cover RB's and even some WR's. He can punt, kick, and play RB. Dude's a monster. And it'll be best to let him do everything and anything. You can't gameplan for a player when you dont know what he will be doing.

Me, I want to see how the two LSU linebacker, Cox and Clark, come along first. Then see our coordinator make his calls!
Getting those two involved asap will change the way we have played defense for a while.
Cox on the fast track to be a participant early, and even a red shirt with Clark and Im good with that considering the investment.
There have been rumors of a speedy recovery, and if so that is a major bonus, but if it takes Clark a season to get back then we still stole him,, and I mean that literally.. :D
Having Parsons, Clark, and Cox in this lineup all together eventually will be a back seven that we havent seen in a very long time.

100% agree. A player THIS dynamic shouldn't be on one side of the ball every snap. The way he was utilized proved he can play the pass or run and can pass rush from anywhere.
So why wouldn't you maintain the mystique?
Just think how even more dangerous Parsons becomes when we have some others showing up that can find their pass rushing niche.
We have some speed with some rook DBs that are going to provide some nice competition, and if speed and size translates to pass rushing success, dont be surpised when some udfas are finding a way on this roster.

Its wide open competition there, so if anyone decided to take the offseason off than they will be missing out on golden opportunity to get penciled inside early.
I have no link, but remember hearing that Bohanna has put on some nice weight and strength, and thats what all of the marsh pit boys better have been doing as well if they want to keep up.
I know the Trysten Hill displeasure is real, but if the light finally comes on can we see a future NT here, just saying that sometimes the light takes a minute to come on for extremely young players, in this case Hill maybe.
There are rooks in the waters like Pirahna's waiting to push for playing time and recognition early, and I hope Ridgeway can keep talking smack, because if he cant back it up there will be team defensive leaders telling him to shut it up.
A large part of Quinns defensive evolution depends on finding some run stopping interior defenders, and the evolution of these young DL is pivotal, but will it be timely, and come together this season.
I dont see this team bringing in any late DL vet cuts, and they are fully vested in the young DL they have invested draft stock into.
Its a 50/50 call, and I know that is the easy call, but if, and thats a big if, we discover a couple run stuffers inside, then Quinn can do whatever he wants with the D, send players in multiple directions at the QB.
Hill
Gallimore
Osa
Bohanna
Rooks...
We need someone to step up and be that leader inside, because if we cant stop the run then even the most athletic back seven in the league gets neutralized.

Another off-season in the same system also helps. Continuity is big.
Seems like the UDFAs might be solid.
Can't wait to see.

To have inside camp access would be a glorious event.
I wonder what the range on a very small insect size camera droid would be.

On a serious note, I havent had an issue with DS getting the franchise tag, like you stated, continuity is big.
I spend a lot of my focus and post directed at the defense, but retaining DS was necessary, and he can take off the voluntary camps.
If a deal needs to be made to extend, than they can easily do it, and it would even free up more cap, but not sure who would be the target for the extra cap, would seem strange unless its a very cap friendly gig.
If not, then hold him to the tag, and there is no way DS pouts and plays less than his 100 percent effort.
He would loose all league credibility and decrease his market value if he went down that road, and TEs in this league loose credibility quickly.
We can get at least 1 year of his peak performance if we decide to stay put with the tag.

A contract is already signed and money is there for next year.
