If it wasn't for our Defense, Rush would suck

to some of you. Rush is playing well, but with our defense allowing just 1 TD a game, it makes things easier for Rush and I'm glad of it. He had a few bad throws....two ints called back because of penalties. But, he's driving the bus. The offense is not on fire and if it wasn't for our defense the Rush love wouldn't be like it is. But I'm happy we have him for a backup.

This is who Rush is. Defense has failed to give up 20pts in any game this year and we are acting like some bus driver QB is the real reason lol. What happens when we need 30s or 40s to win? When he's down multiple scores? Situations he's yet to be in. If the defense keeps at this level and the game is always within one score, any NFL QB can be successful over a period. But we all know the defense won't always be like this. Especially against great offenses. Go back to his start last year against the Vikings. Another game the defense played great.

The offense is average under Rush, which right now, is enough to win and all is well.

And let me guess.....you don't think it's strong words when the say those things about Dak? And Dak is lights-out better than Rush...hands down. Rush is doing what he's supposed to do with a defense like that. But...if the defense weren't playing lights-out,.....hmm.
Who said anything about Dak? Get a grip

Too bad our defense couldn’t prevent your post from….

In 2019, Dallas didn’t win a single game when down at half-time. People acting like Dak has ever won in a shoot out with a real team or that’s been a defining characteristic of his QB career here.

One of the rare times we got into a “shoot out”, Dak threw it at the feet of a wide open Noah Brown on a third form.

Agree.
I think our success has been due to a combination of-

Very good defensive play
Solid O line play
Solid WR play
Coaches putting us in a position to have a chance via appropriate game planning and play calling
Cooper Rush playing within his abilities. He’s not trying to be a hero. He’s basically doing exactly what you want a backup QB to do.

QB's get too much credit for wins and too much blame for losses.

Rush is 11th in the NFL in passer rating now. He isn't lighting the world on fire but for a back up, he has been more than fine.
A lot of it comes down to first-down play-action.
We are top 5 on the first down the last three games.
On 3rd down, we are in the 20s.

The surprise win was vs Cincy. But those guys were really struggling early and still seem a bit out of whack.
Beating New York and Washington is something we always do.

We get them again later plus we get bottom dwellers Chicago and Houston.

I wouldn't recommend using the word "suck' to describe any player's performance.

In Cooper's case, we have already concluded that he has performed above expectation. If the Cowboys were 1-3 then the worse we should probably say about Cooper is that he actually met expectations.

I'm sure we all recall that the vast majority of those expectation were not very high.

Miserably. Not sure if he is playing with injuries or if something else is wrong.

Dak really hasn't been right since the Broncos game last season. Yea sure there were a few terrible teams he helped beat up on but against a decent defense it seems to be expected that he is going to struggle. Maybe it's just a mental thing and he just need a break to get his head right.

I saw that and he basically said that people weren’t applying the same standards to how each QB was evaluated.

Which is factually true. It’s much different. But whatever. All I care about is winning games.

That's because one of them makes 40 million and the other makes league minimum. No kidding they're not evaluated the same.

Good observation. I suspect there are stats on this but I think Dallas plays better when the QB is under center. The run game works better and that sets up play action. The team with Dak has become waaay too reliant on shotgun. Teams figured it out in the middle of last year and started really causing Dallas' offense problems by sitting back in a layered zone and not really trying to stop the run (at least, the teams that weren't tanking at the time).

we had plenty, including myself. His preseason playing didn’t warrant his place in team , but McCarthy deserves some prop, he has rallied the team around Rush and Defense.
Agreed, I never read one positive post on Rush after preseason.
He looked useless.
But he has been solid, I will admit I was wrong about him.

I wouldn't say Rush would suck because he's playing pretty well.....

Now if KM called 60 passes a game and abandoned the run like he did when Dak was in there.... Rush would struggle without the solid run game to open up passing lanes and he's definitely not a quarterback who would flourish throwing 60 passes a game.

But we gotta give Rush his due.... he's balling right now.

It's a shame that some of ya'll just can't be happy with wins unless Dak is the QB.

Also, a question for the OP, why are you "thrilled" we have a QB that you believe "sucks" as the backup?

How ironic..... You're asking questions, but you're one of the biggest runners from answering questions when your hypocritical logic is put on blast.
