This is a thread on the Commanders Board CPND:

http://httr.cpnd.us/thread/16875/more-proof-nfl-fixed

At least some of them have half a Brain and see below ......

I'm saying that Detroit had plenty of chances against a Dallas team that was clearly not having it's best game and could only manage 3 points in the second half. Stafford had the ball in his hands and plenty of time to go down and score the winning TD and couldn't do it (something Romo would have been lambasted for). Even when the Dallas player fumbled the ball back to him and gave him a new set of downs, he still couldn't do it.

Detroit needs to look at itself for the reason they lost.

I spent some time checking out some Lions forums and as expected most thought they were robbed. There were a few that got past the one play and saw the bigger picture. Wish I had copied one post in particular. It went something like this

It was one bad call, but that's not what cost us the game. We took our foot off the gas and got complacent, started playing not to lose, played too conservative. They made adjustments and we didn't. Too many penalties that were warranted, shanked punt, bad decision to run a kick-off out of the endzone, poor play calling, two fumbles on the final drive, we had our chances. The refs didn't bury us, they just handed us the shovel and we happily buried ourselves.

There were more Lions fans than I expected that had similar takes.

I dont know if its been mentioned but Dez is lucky he didnt get flagged for running onto the field to argue, and without his helmet.

I love his fire, but you gotta know when to be smart and reel that stuff in

The real question is why the hell was this the first time these refs reffed a game together????? Makes no sense whatsoever.

The rule clearly states that you aren't allowed to remove your helmet on the field of play. It says nothing about coming onto the field without a helmet. It happens multiple times every game. As for the arguing, he had his arms out wide and yelled something to the ref who was pretty far away, but backed off as soon as the ref came close. The ref probably told him to get off the field and he did.

I didn't realize Dez Bryant ran out on the field without his helmet after that play.

Man did we get lucky.

Agree, this whole idea of "all star" refs that graded out the best from different crews being put together for the first time in playoff games is not the best idea in hind sight. I imagine that will change for next year.

As for the call, technically there were 4 penalties that could have been called......defensive holding as Hitchens grabbed and pulled the jersey right at the snap, offensive PI on Pettigrew grabbing Hitchen's facemask, PI on Hitchens making contact with the WR and not looking back for the ball, and finally unsportsman like conduct on Dez walking onto the field without a helmet to argu the call.

Regardless of what was called or not called or which ref had the best view or was overridden on his call, the fact that they did not conference first and sort it all out is the main problem here. For the head ref to talk to one ref and announce the penalty on national TV and then talk to the other refs who felt it was not a penalty, then for the head ref to pick up the flag and never make any announcement or correction for the national TV audience was a huge blunder.

The "optics" just look bad when you do it that way because everybody at home is like "what the hell just happened?".....................then you get all the conspiracy theories and Cowboy haters coming out of the woodwork to say it was a "gifted win".

I have already seen several media guys saying that this win should have an "asterisk" beside it....................Whatever, folks are going to think what they want anyways.

I don't get that approach AT ALL. Why would you break up crews who have worked together all season?

Makes no sense. And what is the message being sent any way when you feel the need to shake up the officiating crews for the playoffs?

There is no rule specifically against this. The helmet rule is that you aren't allowed to remove your helmet while on the field of play. Dez didn't do that as he had his helmet off on the sideline. As for unsportsman like conduct, that completely at the referees discretion. He probably told Dez to go back and Dez did immediately. He showed discretion and didn't throw a flag on something that literally had no effect on the game.

Watch closely every game at the sidelines and you'll see plenty of players come onto the field without a helmet. Watch Beast Quake 2.0 and you'll see a Seahawks player run all the way from the bench into the endzone to celebrate the TD without his helmet on.
