Officially the worst offseason ever?

I agree, but the stakes are higher this offseason. This was a playoff team that had a chance to go to the super bowl.

This is almost like last year with the suspensions and they ended up doing alright. I'll have to wait and see if this will affect them down the road. I'm not so sure right now.

While New England reloaded for another Super Bowl, I can't help but feel like this offseason has gone off the rails for us. I am trying to be optimistic, and I love our core, but I fear that the tumult of this offseason will result in a pretty big step back on the field this year. And it will take another year for us to reach our Super Bowl potential. In a nutshell:

1. Jerry misplays the Romo situation and we get nothing for a franchise QB who still can play.
2. We make no free agent signings of note and lose 3/4 of our starting DBs (which I was OK with) and 2/5 of our starting OL.
3. We miss out on all of the speed pass rushers in the first round of the draft (and allow Atlanta to leapfrog us for the last one) and draft yet another LDE.
4. Our most promising pass rusher and disruptor, David Irving, gets suspended 4 games, continuing a pattern set by D Law and Gregory.
5. Our starting SLB, and best coverage LB, Damien Wilson, assaults a woman with his car and pulls a rifle on her friends. No doubt, he'll be suspended for a long time.
6. Our franchise RB may be suspended, according to John Clayton.
7. Even our choir boy QB and leader is accused of fraud, for selling memorabilia he did not sign by hand.

On top of this, we have a very difficult first place schedule. I am excited for our future. But, in all honesty, I expect to be diaappointed this season.

I would LOVE to go back and read your early July assessments prior to 2014 and 2016 when things looked pretty bad if not worse than they do at this point. Talk about glass half empty. Half of what you're listing is unsubstantiated and or just perception. This thread officially SUCKS!!

OP last season
Josh Norman, Olivier Vernon, Carson Wentz
The difference between us and the NFC East. All of our rivals made bold moves to improve their teams. We sat on our hands in free agency and drafted a redshirt second rounder. Our secondary needed an overhaul, and we re signed Mo and kept Carr instead. This is going to be a very frustrating year. As I've said before, this is not a playoff roster

And I stand by that post

Bahahahaha.

OP, there's nothing wrong with being wrong from time to time.....but when you are wrong (obviously this IS a "playoff roster), at least man up and admit it.

You just look bull-headed and silly at this point.

We have the best QB-RB young combo in the game, the best OL and a dynamic receiving corps
We have an athletic and hungry defense led by Sean Lee and have a stud MIKE in his 2nd year

We are 18m under the cap without restructuring Dez, Witten and TCrawford(another 18m in space) and we ate Romo's retirement and 10.9m in Dead Money

We can rollover 10m+ to 2018 and be 30m+ under the cap with no big internal FAs to sign

Things are just fine

Now, losing Mo and Carr is a sign of impending doom.

The times, they are a-changin'...

If you expect to be disappointed, you probably will be. What could possibly be worse than going 13-3, a bye week to prepare, and HFA throughout the playoffs. And yet, STILL be one and done?

You had the worst last year. Now you expect the worst this year as well? LOL!!!

Why not just expect the best. Then flame them when they fail? If they fail.

That's what everybody does.

All this hand wringing about things you have not control over is a bit distasteful. Don't you think?

I do.

I just think our fo is feeling itself too much when it comes to drafting by avoiding free agency. We have had some great drafts but you need both draft and free agency

I did not have the worst last year because I knew our defense was not playoff ready... why I am disappointed this year (apart from the suspensions and potential suspensions) is that I dont think we did enough to fix the defense. We have a franchise QB and RB on cheap rookie deals, and could have spent some free agent money, and had a franchise QB that we could have gotten value for if Jerry did not misplay his hand. So maybe my expectations now will be low enough going into the season that I will be pleasantly surprised...

That's right, the misbehavior, drug use, suspensions, and free agent dormancy is the CAUSE of our subsequent success... At some point, this catches up with you... please remember my screen name, and I will yours. And let's compare notes after the season.
I read your post with respect but I have come to different conclusions. I don't disagree about the suspensions. I love that we have pulled away from high dollar FA. Continued good drafting will be the cause of our success not FA. Someday down the road we may need that FA piece but
we're not there yet. We have some big contract extensions lumping the next couple of years and Television contracts will not cover
those big extensions for Martin,MCollins,Collins{RT},ect. Garrett has turned the ship around but not all hands are on deck. Takes time.

The worst part of this offseason to me is all this Super Bowl talk.

Not because I personally don't buy in to the hype but because this team has a history of accomplishing the least when the expectations are the highest.

If they can avoid eating the cheese and play with a chip on their collective shoulder the relatively minor hurdles this offseason has presented won't be much of an issue.

In fact the hurdles could be the fertilizer for that chip.

Can't wait to see how it plays out!

Was their really anyone that was available after the franchise tags that thrilled you? I liked Calais Cambell but not 75 to 80 million worth. Good Players were getting great player money. Dallas has for to many years in the past thrown good money after bad by over paying players and killing our cap. I liked the four dbs we lost BUT..... rookies can give up 500 yards to every qb with talent. This happened to be a great db draft class, and we have been drafting very well for a few years now. Things really fell our way where we didn't have to over spend in free agency, and greatly improve our talent thru the draft. Have we solved our problem at edge rusher? Can Taco be that guy? Taco is really big so if he can we knocked one out of the park. We also have Jaylon Smith, Tapper, and Moore ( who can play the edge) that we have not seen yet. I would have dropped 100 million on a top edge rusher but there wasn't one. I'm glad we were patient. this will be a much better defense than a year ago, regardless of what the mediots say.
