This is a tremendous blow. The NFL is the last place on earth for someone who has this. I care about his well-being first. We need Earl Thomas, need to trade for a center immediately in order to be competitive this season. Look at our schedule. We can't afford to wing it in any area. You cannot replace playmakers with band-aids.

Not much of a choice here this late in the game most quality player are already on board.

I honestly don’t know how the center position has anything to do with safety. I don’t see their stance changing much here

Fredericks an O-linman ... he'll be back at some point ... I doubt we were going to the super bowl this year ... so even if he missed a year, that would not be the worst thing. A whole year to rest the body could extend Frederick's career.

I haven't given up on Frederick to get over this disease and I seriously doubt the team will, either. He's a valuable member of the Dallas o-line. It remains to be seen whether he'll manage to overcome it quickly or not. In the meantime, I'm sure that the team and their doctors will do all in their power to help him. Fortunately, they caught this problem early, so it's possible that he'll recover sooner than we might think. At least, let's hope so, huh?

This is surely a blow but how tremendous it is remains to be seen. Thank God that they caught it early enough to enhance his chances for a full recovery. Of course, it remains to be seen. Let's hope the team won't rush him back before he's ready, though -- that'd be foolish. We'll see.

They won’t be scoring as many points now because running up the middle just got harder so they need to give up less points a game. That’s where ET comes in.

I have an uncle that contracted Guillen-Barre in his mid-late 50's. He started feeling gradually weaker, until he couldn't get out of bed one day. Went to the local hospital, where they were testing him, and kind of diagnosing him (they weren't sure), for a stroke. After 24 hours, my cousin transferred him to the Cleveland Clinic.

Within another 24 hours, they had an accurate diagnosis, and had started treatment. They were able to predict the course of the disease almost perfectly. They said he would get progressively weaker, more difficult to breathe, and would require a ventilator just to breathe. All of that came to pass. He was in the hospital for a month, and in intensive care for about a week (from what I remember-this was about 15 years ago)--later he told me the ventilator was the worst part of the whole disease. They also predicted recovery, but they couldn't predict the extent of the recovery, or the timeline with nearly as much detail as the progression of the disease.

He did eventually recover, but for him, it was a long process--sounds like it was similar to what Schlereth went through.

Prior to the surgery he was physically very strong--had worked in an auto factory putting 95 pound bumpers on vans every 90 seconds. He had built several houses, renovated a couple more, and helped various people in our family with roofs, and additions to their houses. After the surgery, he still planted a huge garden, but never took on construction projects again. I don't know how much of a factor age was, he was something like 57 or 58 when he got it, so he may not have done so, even without getting sick. I don't think he was ever quite as vigorous afterwards, but it would still probably count as a full recovery.

I don't think it ever recurred with him.

It sounds like Frederick has a mild case (prior to this I didn't even know there were such things). I am not dismissing anything with this disease. People that say his career may be over--they could be right. Likewise, people that say he will fully recover in two or three months--they may be right. Who knows? Nothing would surprise me here.

It sounds like the case your uncle had might have had a chance to progress longer than what Frederick's did, although that's just a guess on my part. Do you happen to know how advanced it was when they caught it? Potentially, it seems it could be a difference maker in Fredbeard's case.

Fred could have had it last year when it appeared he had lost some strength, and his problems got worse this preseason.

Didn't read the whole thread, but it baffles me that people care more about the game than the guys health...screw the game! Hopefully he has a full and speedy recovery, then he can worry about football.

Fredrick is tough. Didn’t he say he has had a few treatment already and feels strong. I wonder if he is planning on playing? I wouldn’t count that man out. He has went through TC. If he chooses and the doctors clear him I wonder if he plans on playing through this or if it’s possible. I am not trying to sound selfish by wanting him to play I am just wondering.

Gullian-Barre is the disease that put FDR in a wheelchair. Having that as the root cause of "stingers" is basically the worst case scenario.

The prognosis I'm hearing on here is far better than I thought when I first heard "auto-immune nerve disorder", but I would not be surprised if this cost him most or all of 2018. Even if the disease itself is cured in 1-2 months, he'll probably be out of football shape if it prevents him from lifting with his arms or working out.
Where have you seen that this is the "root cause" of his stingers?

I hear you but I think most people really do care about Fred’s health. I think?

So, no rush now, but I assume he's a lock for the IR, hopefully with a chance to return.
