Idk about this. Will McClay and Stephen really are the gm at the moment. Just adding another body to the front office at that point in Garrett. I think we hire a new oc. Richard gets the defensive coordinator title next season if he doesn’t leave for Miami.

I'll preface this by saying to take it with a grain of salt. Give it as much or as little value as you see fit.

A friend of mine talks with someone with connections to the Cowboys organization, out of respect for privacy and confidentiality, I can't and won't give any names, so if you think I'm full of it, well, it won't be the first time.

But I'm told that there's talk that Jerry might make an unprecented move to keep this train going. It's been talked about the possibility of promoting Jason Garrett to the GM role and naming Kris Richard the team's head coach. It would quiet any talk of why Jones won't hire a GM and allow the team to keep a coach that the entire organization loves. Garrett would work with Will McClay on the draft and get a raise and everybody wins.

They love Richard but also love what Garrett has brought in terms of the culture of the organization and have discussed how to maintain all of that.

Again, it's second hand rumor from a friend of a friend, so take it for what it's worth. Something or nothing might come of it, but I felt it was an exciting possibility when it was shared with me so I wanted to pass it on.

Hey stash, thanks for the share!

Any clue on the status of Linehan if this happens or even if it doesn’t?

He wasn't mentioned at all in the conversation that was shared with me. My guess would be that barring another win or more and a quality offensive performance, he's out. They'll probably try to take the high road and let him try to find another job or step down first, but if not, I think he's likely to be replaced.

I'd have to think that if Richard was made head coach, he'd bring in his own OC for sure. Nobody has seen up close and personal how this offense has struggled to score points more than Richard. He and this defense have had to carry that side of the ball all season. I can't imagine he'd be OK with that again.

Maybe I'll try to ask specifically about Linehan?

Good lord..I'm not sure how Richard has been elevated to God like status around here. He's been on multiple interviews and not one offer, was fired as a DC by a superbowl winning coach a year ago and folks want to have statues of him next to Landry because he started a fight against the Eagles

The side piece to this.......... I am not sure Richard would even be a good HC. He wouldn't be my top choice.

But barring a SB run here, I think after 9 seasons we might need a new direction at the HC spot. Also, we are morphing into a team that might be led by their defense, so I could see some logic bringing in a defensive minded HC like Richard who most likely would bring in an offensive coordinator and just hand him the reigns.

I sincerely doubt that happens...

all those worried about losing Ricard and so fast to hand him a HC job and total shake up in scenario that pushes will Mclay somewhere and JG as a GM when Jerry has never used the word GM unless he was included, its fairy Tale..

all jerry should do is ask Marinelli if he wants retire or be renamed to something else, promote KR to DC and asst HC plus boat load of money..

if thats not good enough , we tried..we lost Eferblus and survived and we can survive KR if he doesnt want to stay..right now Miami is the only one left that would consider making him a HC so we have some more leverage..

Would make sense. That way JJ can still be the GM. But will Richard take the HC job knowing he won’t have the power most hc have.

What "power that most head coaches have" would Richard not have?

And why did we "survive losing Eberflus"? Because we got Kris Richard.

This isn’t happening. Stephen is the GM in waiting.

Steven is the owner in waiting.

Who knows, but this is an idea to keep talent and culture you want in the organization. I’m not a coach Redball fan, but I do like his intangibles. He does set a great tone and example.....he just doesn’t manage a game from the sideline as well as I’d like.

So if JJ is looking ahead to the day he can’t run things, he passes it to his son, pit JG at GM and gets the new hot, young coach. If he isn’t ready to cut the chord completely, he can create some position that still gives him power.

It’s not totally unrealistic.

That would be ideal. (if we're keeping Garrett that is) Thank you for sharing.

The only thing that sets Stephen from his father apart is that SJ is aware that he is an idiot.
After he is the owner he will for sure hire an GM. Or give duties to someone who wont be called GM but essentially has all the power to be one.

What a terribly misinformed statement. I bet I could find some New York fans who would too.
You might find some Cowboy fans that want Garrett to stay, but they won't post here because the would receive a verbal tar and feathering.

AC, you better get used to seeing JG on the sideline. He's not going anywhere.
