He’s already been the coach for a decade. How many prove it years is he going to get?

He was on one in 2014 and, well, he proved it. (Or were you advocating firing him after a 12-4 season?). He’s on another one this year and the brass has made clear that to prove it he has to get the team past the divisional round of the playoffs.

I get it. He’s unpopular. But the FO is handling him exactly as you suggested he should be handled in your prior post.

I disagree with that statement. The entire team could still be pretty good and the offense just isn't as good without its best player. There's too much parity in this league.

Of course you do. It destroys your case.

If they can’t beat non playoff teams with no quarterbacks, they aren’t a playoff team themselves.

Cooper and Dak won't hurt their long-term value by playing another season (assuming they perform). As a RB, Zeke's chances of getting a big, long-term deal go down each year he puts more miles on the tires.

Exactly why he’s doing what he’s doing right now. He has more mileage than other RBs already.

Still holding onto that Dak will be done by the bye. Gives both sides a taste of what the Moore lead offense brings to the table.

Cooper I could see be done by next offseason as IMO he's in no rush to sign.

Can't see them going into next offseason with Cooper, Prescott and Jones as potential UFA's and only one Franchise tag.

Good chance Jones isn’t a Cowboy next year if you strictly look at the numbers.

I would love that for Dak and hate that for the other two. If Cooper walks after 1.5 seasons and we don’t win the SB it’s the worst trade in Cowboys history
Really? 2 1st round picks for Joey Galloway? Or a 1st for Roy Williams?

I think if they start out losing 2 of 3 or something like that and the offense looks bad, Jerry will open the wallet.

And if they win some early games, which they easily could given the quality of opponents, Zeke finds himself in a tough spot.

There seems to be an assumption that Dak is going to take a huge leap forward this year and do things he couldnt in past years.

What are the chances of this happening? Especially with a raw rookie OC and a raw rookie QB coach?

Given the number of first team reps and starts he has, he's long past the steep part of the learning curve.

Aaron Donald and Mack reset the market between his first FT and the 2nd one.
I need to find the article/tweets from official sources but I thought his first demands were in the teens.
Not a huge increase, but still it cost them more to wait. I understood their delay, but it's silly season every year due to cap rollovers, increasing cap ceiling every year etc...

For Dak, that's why I thought by the bye would be a good time to try to get the deal done. They'll have 7 games, including a tough handful of games to see how he does.

I don't have an issue signing him during the season after Dak has some games under his belt and you have a good idea of how he's playing.

the agents are commission salesmen. they tell the players the money's there. they can get it. they're doing it for the future of every other player, and on and on. if top 5 money has truly been offered, that's not a bad deal. the quicker that bonus money's in the bank or being invested, the better. plus it rules out not getting it should they be injured and careers ended. risky business.

The prove it deal can be worst. I lived in Baltimore when the ravens played hardball with Flacco and he went on to win a super bowl and they were forced to back up the brinks truck and he was never good again after that contract. And they never made the playoffs again with Flacco as their qb after he got paid.

Come on people. If this is true, and may be, why do you think this was leaked to the press?

Some people just don't understand how today's society works. Social media has destroyed any sort of 'secrecy' when it comes to these contract negotiations. 10 years ago, convos such as these were extremely rare. Today, both sides use these platforms as negotiating ploys hoping that they can pressure a side to cave. And that's all this is...'leaking' this statement is nothing more than another negotiating tactic.

This is exactly the way to play it. Almost

I'm sure they have no problem paying Dak $40 million a year if he proves it this season. (Plus, saving that $30 million this season would more than pay the difference!!!)

Cooper is not a top five receiver, and to pay him like one now would just be stupid. Again, prove it!

I would pay Zeke more right now because the Cowboys only have one franchise tag to use next year. They have to pay somebody, and he's the most worthy on the field. But...it would have to have some behavior clauses because they can't get saddles with a big contract if he gets himself suspended again.

Jerry made his bed by opening his mouth, now common sense has kicked in. Zeke and Coop should be top five. Dak is lucky to get top five money, he should jump on it before he loses that offer.

This is a great point. If Dak insists on getting massive money, it could ultimately cost him dearly in the end. Another average season, and he could be looking at $18 million a year instead of the $28 million he could get right now. I hope he does stand firm because I don't want this team strapped with a bad QB contract. If he proves it, then unload the truck. Otherwise, just wait and see.

I don't agree on Cooper just yet. I love his game, but I'd like to see more consistency for a full season than what he's shown the past two. He dang sure made a difference here, but top five? I think he's more like top 10-12.
