Is Kris Richard the problem?

I believe a lot of the blame lies within this team's front office for their lack of direction.

They seem lacking in any specific knowledge as to how to build an effective defense.

I wouldn't say he is the problem, but he certainly has not done much to make the D better. The DBacks are still making the same mistakes in coverage.

The problem is we dont have a real "DC", what we have is a figurehead DC in marinelli, who still supposedly handles the line, and a passing game coordinator
who is calling the def plays!
This all goes back to the jones boys who created this mish mash of coaches , and none of them have any real authority.
I can also see where Jason might sabotage both richards and kellen, because he sees them both as a threat to take his job.

Exactly right!

The issue is we've got three coaches telling three levels of our defense three different things.

The expression is too many cooks spoil the soup.

Rod is coaching his 'Rushmen', Bloom is coaching the linebackers (anyone else notice him on the headset talking to the field on Sunday?) and Richard is coaching the defensive backs. No one true voice, bad results.

They have too many cooks trying and failing to cook a fish and chips dinner much less soup.

The glaring problem with the defense (besides lack of turnovers) is the defensive line.

If your defensive line doesn't play well, or is ineffective, it greatly affects how your LB's and DB's play. Our DL play has been atrocious, which is Rod Marinelli's bread and butter. Should have been fired after the 2016 playoff loss.
That is a false statement. Since the Rams game everyone has taken advantage of our LB's specifically LVE. They are literally running plays to take advantage of him. LVE appears to know it and seems to be thinking to much on the field. Seems to have affected his tackling. The wolf is no longer hunting the prey with intent to kill but rather hoping the prey just lays down because of his rep as a killer.

Right now it looks like he is the main problem.

Especially LVE and Jalyon regressing may be his fault.
It's the same thing. You have to win on all three phases of Defense. Defensive line linebackers backfield. One's not going to work well without the other. Clearly the issues are on the defensive line right now

I disagree. The defensive line should be taking on the offensive line. Linebacker should be dealing with tight ends full backs and running backs. The offensive line should not be getting to the second level as easy as they have been

I don't see any leadership on this field I see a bunch of individuals. I can't comprehend how people don't see this. It's all about coaching my cowboy brother. You don't play great and then all of a sudden suck. Something's not right and I believe it's leadership. Sean Lee is not out there he was a leader. Demarcus Lawrence he's hurt so he's not the leader this team is looking for someone to step up

You are right about the lack of leadership. They don't really have a pack leader at the moment.

You can disagree but you are wrong. Tape doesn't lie. The DL are doing what they are supposed to do but the LBs are not.....specifically LVE. Offenses are literally running the same plays at LVE game after game. Kris claims that the problem has been addressed but I doubt it due to Kris being married to his scheme and blaming the players for not executing. Gap integrity is the term that they use a lot and our LBs are not getting to those gaps.....again specifically LVE.

How can I possibly be wrong. It's an opinion. Everyone's wrong if that's the case including you. You're not stating facts we have one defensive lineman strictly rushing to the quarterback not even, worrying about the Run. And if it is a run I'm at the second level. So again my opinion. Is I disagree with you

Funny how the threads filled with making this guy the head coach have suddenly stopped. Also the threads of signing Moore for ten years so he doesn't get away.
Fans tend to give too much credit and blame
Are to quick to judge
Players are called a bust after one pre season game
Coaches are anointed after one good game

With everyone blasting Marinelli this past few weeks (myself included), maybe its time to point the finger at Richard. After all, he certainly appears to be calling the defense from the sideline. Taking certain factors into account, such as the linebackers going from all-pros to have-nots, and the lackluster secondary play, this all comes as a big surprise. And quite frankly, a huge disappointment. Some of this must fall squarely on his shoulders.

I went on record last year about how this guy might be our savior and bring some real nastiness to the defense. Well clearly that hasn't happened and that side has taken a BIG step backwards. These next two games before the break should tell us a lot about this defense and his bravado on how they're ready to turn the corner.

The season could be in the balance before the bye.

............and you forgot that he's benched our best Cb.

Definitely an opinion. I think your opinion is not accurate based on the tape and the feed back from our coaches specifically Kris.

It's an issue because Richard calls the defense, not Rod.

And for those with short memories, Richard also said Hill was his choice too in the second round. Over all the safeties...

Even with Richard calling the plays, it's still the same old tackle the runner on the way to failing to sack the QB scheme marinelli has ran forever... The Rams figured it out and left the evidence for teams to exploit.

And the last time I checked Tristan Hill is a rookie! He could end up fantastic after a year of maturity. Not many defensive tackles tear it up first year

Agreed.

but with that being said, would it hurt Jones, Awuzie or Brown to just turn their heads ONE time and make a play lol
Even if you don't make a play, just turn around and at least avoid the obvious PI calls. That has driven me crazy for 10 years. It's clear they are NOT coached to turn, any in fact I wonder if they are coached to NOT turn.
