A theory on what might be happening and the possible reason for the delay. I've heard that Garrett was told he's not coming back as head coach, but that he has been offered a front office role if he wants one. I think the delay may be to give Garrett time to decide I feel he wants to accept the offer or to continue coaching elsewhere.
Link?

I think many people have mentioned this already but they'll announce his contract has run out and he wont be retained whenever it officially runs out. (Wednesday right?)

Jerry is going out of his way not to "fire" JG before then.

He's given fans 10 years of false hope. If he had an ounce of dignity, he would've quit long before now.

would you voluntarily quit your job? Come on guys, mediocre coach yes but character wise top notch which is why he is very wel respected

Funny that Jerry offered no such dignity and respect for Landry.

You really need to read this about what happened to Landry regarding Jones. I am not a Jones guy and do not defend him often, however in this case there is a ton more to what happened (most of which had nothing to do with Jerry) than most people realize.

Much of this was confirmed by Tex Schramm and Gil Brandt and not hard to find, but this is the best overall discussion of all that occurred.

The Backstory on Firing A Coaching Legend: Tom Landry
http://coachfore.org/2017/10/19/landry/

a snippet:

“Okay, so here’s the backstory. Schramm wanted to get rid of him, but he couldn’t because the Clint Murchinsons (the original owner of the Cowboys), the original owner’s deal was Schramm, Landry, Brandt. That was the deal, couldn’t break them up. Two people offered more money to Bum Bright, the owner who sold to Jerry Jones. But he turned them down because they were going to keep Tom Landry. But Bum hated Tom Landry. Jerry gets the team; everybody knows that Jerry brings his own guy. Now the same people who are calling my radio show in the Fall of 1988, ‘he’s old, he’s senile, the game has passed him buy, you gotta get rid of Landry.’”

Again, I am not defending him, just showing you that others had as much, if not more of, a hand in what happened.

I'd be embarassed if I were Garrett. Fail at one thing to another, only to have papa Jones save your skin and reputation. He basically lost his playcalling abilities when Linehan was hired which he wasn't too happy about, but took it like a good dog. Now he's been awful as a head coach with no other duties, and Jones still wants to keep him around. He's stealing money being a fake son at this point.

Hoping that the GM position will now also be filled with a competent new manager.

So it's either they are all gone or everyone but Garrett is gone? What's crazy is that only in Jerryworld can Garrett remain being a possibility. This should all be over already, the longer it takes the more i believe Garrett remains.
Sarek---- i agree..it is so nauseating ....this is why cowboys cannot win....they are disfunctional from top to bottom

Keep hearing "very well respected". By who? Opposing players mock our game plans. Former players usually trash him.
If you're talking about platitudes in general, even the worst coaches and people generally get that in the good ol boy NFL

This is just like Jerry to drag his feet and generate as much buzz as possible. No such thing as bad pub.

Didn't he drop the parcells bomb the week of the Superbowl? Always trying to grab all the headlines.

If he is waiting, I would hope he already has an agreement in place with his choice. Otherwise, he doesn't really give a **** about winning.
tom---you dont think Jerry is considering keeping the Clapper do you?.....oh please
