Shula had no salary cap problems/restrictions. Jimmy did. On top of that, he inherited an aging QB and no running game. I'm surprised he did as well as he did. And if you don't think he improved that defense, then senility must be creeping in.

Slurp, slurp...

He's a great coach (duh) who had great success in Dallas.

Because he had a great PARTNERSHIP with Jerry goin' on...

Well gee, by your own standards, Bill must be a failure too.

Yup... he never accomplished what he came to Dallas to do... now, he might have, if he hadn't burned out, but now the book is closed, and final judgement can be rendered...

Now, he helped the team, and got it pointed back in the right general direction, but he did not meet the goals that he and we Cowboys fans set for him...

Why yes, yes they are. Someone please send SB the link to the latest JJT column, where Jerry receives a well-deserved comeuppance for his latest act of managerial butchery.

As if Jean-Jacques Mediot is an expert...

He says with zero sense of self-awareness.

At no point in time have you ever come CLOSE to "getting to me"...

You also never caught my act back in the day, before I "mellowed out"... LOL...

I'm gonna send you some irony for V-Day.

You're lookin' for love in ALL the wrong places, Nancy...

Not true. I haunt your dreams. Think of me as a permanent chigger under your overrated skin.

You never cross my mind at all until I read one of your rants... if you shut up tomorrow, it would take me about 3 days to forget that you EVER existed...

You really have to get over these delusions of grandeur... it might make more sense for you to attempt to develop delusions of adequacy...

I agree, BUT, this should lead most to believe that Garrett is going to be the HC. I can not explain why they have not announced him as the HC yet though.

IMO it's not too hard to figure out.

So you are saying every team in the league let their current head coaches hire all of their staff?

No, but the successful teams do. If you wanna follow the pack, then follow behind.

The best teams allow the coaches to pick their assistants.

Well, that much is true... however, you ignore one FACT, and one logical assumption:

1) FACT-- Jerry CHANGED the way he did things when he hired Parcells... and at the time, he candidly admitted that he HAD to change, because what he'd done wasn't working...

2) Asumption-- as you said, he had "horrid results" with his old modus operandi... unless he's an idiot, he realizes that too... so, why would you assume that he'd be eager to go back to what didn't work for him before??

All I've said was that the hiring of an assistant before the HC is like he did in the past. I can't help it if that caused many of you to start foaming at the mouth.

I have absolutely no beef with Jimmy at all, in fact I hold him in some reverence...

I'm simply countering some ridiculous hero worship of the guy, the contention that the Cowboys only won because of him, and Jerry had little to nothing to do with it...

I don't think anyone thinks Dallas won ONLY because of Jimmy. He also had a great coaching staff, great scouting dept, some guys like Irvin and Ken Norton, for instance, were already here, we had the #1 pick the year he arrived and were able to take Aikman, obviously the Walker trade.

No, it's not just about Jimmy. But the notion that Jerry was the main cog that made the decisions in those days just like he did after Jimmy left is extremely ridiculous.

I believe we could've easily won in the 90's with all the other factors, minus Jerry. The reverse...not so much.

I believe what's been lost in this thread, amongst the posturing and the cock-fighting, and dick-measuring contests, is that 103.3 totally sucks as a sports station.

Ice, I pity any fool who got in both our crosshairs at the same time... they probably wouldn't be able to identify the remains with dental records...

I still remember our political head to head with some fondness, LOL...

in the end, respect for each other came out of that one so it was all good. as for the jerry-haters, i could take it if they would at least balance things - but the 100% anti-jerry is just too much. facts get twisted and stories cross over each other and they don't even see how their blind hatred warps their views of reality.

some people just are not happy unless they're hating.

That's the way I look at it...

I think it's a measure of how profoundly weird I am, I often wind up liking the guys with whom I argue the most bitterly, and sometimes they end up thinking I might not be the spawn of Satan... :D

C'mon, some in here have said exactly that... at least, in the context of how much credit Jerry deserves for that success...

What part of COLLABORATION don't you understand?? Kindly point me to where I EVER claimed that Jerry was the "main cog" in that success... he was A main cog...

Without Jerry, the other factors wouldn't have been in place...

Yeah...Jerry gets credit for buying the team, hiring Jimmy and then letting Jimmy bring in his staff and allowing the football people to do their jobs.

And, we do have some who think Jerry was the main cog. For instance, they suggest that the only reason Jimmy didn't win a SB in Miami was because Jerry wasn't there as GM.

Now that's funny...I don't care who u r.

no but her mom is pretty attractive herself. : )

and it looks like VA is at least admitting jerry was a part of those teams who won. yesterday i put him on ignore simply because he refused to acknowlege jones as any part of it.

that's just too much to me.
