105.3 has upset me: Emmitt vs Barry

Emmitt Smith is my favorite Cowboy of all time.

But Barry Sanders was a better running back. Hands down.

Emmitt was exceptional at falling forward for extra yardage and picking up first downs. He was the consummate chain mover, and he was an all-around back.

But nobody has matched the sheer brilliance and spectacular ability of Sanders. His style is all his own.

You can have your highlights, give me the SB rings any day. .

I know he sometimes took a loss when he could have gotten that 1/2 yard. Not sure that kills a drive though.
I'd actually like to see evidence of that.
It's been repeated so often, and most now say it's a myth perpetuated over time.
The guy averaged 5 ypc for 10 years...which is preposterously absurd.
In the '90s that killed drives far more than it would in today's pass-happy league.

Gaining that tough 3 yards inside on 1st down keeps you right on schedule with down and distance.

Losing 2 yards on 1st down? With Scott Mitchell at QB, you might as well punt on 2nd down.

On 3rd and 1, in the 4th quarter of a crucial game, give me Emmitt over Barry any day of the week.

Emmitt was also a terrific leader, vocally and by example. Barry's coaches begged him to be a vocal leader but he flat-out refused to be one. Those flawed Lions teams needed leadership from their best player in the WORST way, and the best player basically said, "Nope, not happening."

Intangibles? Emmitt over Barry in a landslide.

How many hall of famers played with Jim Brown? Specifically on the offensive side of the ball? Brown also had a hall of fame coach and arguably the greatest head coach of all time. Definitely a top 3 head football coach in NFL history

Brown played with 6 Hall of Famers on offense (not all at the same time) - Mike McCormack, Gene Hickerson, Lou Groza (played G when Brown was drafted), Paul Warfield, Leroy Kelly and Bobby Mitchell.

The rings would be the same here if they swapped places.

LOL. Did you use a crystal ball to predict that? Barry did not like running behind his blockers. Dallas OL was built for power running, that was NOT Barry Sanders. Detroit went to the spread to maximize Barry's talents. It is foolish to say that Barry would have had Emmitt's success simply by swapping the 2 backs.

Peete, Mitchell, and Batch.

Barry was playing with one arm tied behind his back.
