No its not spin. Carp uses his speed and quickness in pass rushing situations, but when you play the run game you need to be stronger and tougher so you can shed more easily.
The point is, and always has been, that you said he has to take on Guards as an ILB. Then when it is pointed out to you that he has "taken on Guards" it suddenly was a "mismatch" in his favor.

Why not put him where he can take advantage of these mismatches?

Oh right, because that would mean he can play in the 3-4 and you've already said he can't.

That's called "spin control."

I am one of the few that wants to keep Fergy and move Ratliff to DE........ The problem is going to be who will take Spears or Carp? Both 1st round picks have pretty decent cash coming there way in the next few years.

I don't think you're one of the few, I think it's obvious that that's what the Cowboys org would like to have Ratliff do.

No your wrong its not spin, its not reading what I bleeding wrote in the first place. Reread my initial post, I am specifically referring to the run game. And because he is so bad in the run game, which is essential for a ILB in the 3-4, he is not a fit in this system. Pass rushing is different he can rely more on his speed.

I don't know what some of you guys watched this year, but Spears played very well most of the season. He was playing his best ball near the end of the year when the rest of the team seemed to take some time off. Our DL rotation is one of our biggest strengths.

He doesn't provide a lot of pass rush though, and Ratliff is equally good in the run game if not better, and a much better pass rusher than Spears.

Actually, Spears provided a pretty damn good pass rush the second half of he season, in addition to playing the run extremely well. DEs in the 3-4 just don't get many sacks. He did, however, provide some pretty good pressure as a rusher.

Well apparently Jerry didn't think he did well enough, as is evident by us trying to trade him, and that is what really matters.

Wow. Shopping Carpenter is one thing, but who is going to replace Spears? Hatcher has the ability to make some explosive plays, but sometimes he gets out of position or just flat out vanishes.

At this point, the Boys have Canty, Hatcher, Ratliff and Bowen who can all play DE... then you've got Tank Johnson at DT, and Ratliff can back him up there (this assumes Spears and Jason Ferguson will not be back)... that's 5 players at 3 positions...

Then you look to the draft for depth, most likely later in the draft...

I think the best thing about this draft is you could leave after two days, not take a single pick on the Oline or front 7 and be OK with it. Unless its a 1st day pick I wouldn't do it for Spears, I think he could be effective at NG and he's JAG at DE, but you really have to get lucky to get the Ratliffs of the world and more often than not you are not going to find a rotation player in the 2nd day.
