well, I never saw Jim Thorpe perform either but I was absolutely fascinated by him as a kid and my first research paper was about him.

The Meredith I saw was on film and, of courses MNF

Meredith was a little before my time as a fan, but I always enjoyed him as MNF broadcaster sparring with Howard Cosell. "Turn out the lights, the party's over."
