He has two games in which he has made 3 sacks in the game. Oakland and AZ - two lines worse than ours.

yes but, ware has faced the texans and titans...how many sacks did he have in those games? i hate the argument that just cause a player did something well versus a bad team it doesnt count because the opponent sucked. merriman is doing exactly what a good pass rusher is supposed to do versus a bad line. what would impress you? a five sack game?

So... in a couple of hours we have a game that determines the direction of our team in regards to personnel for our immediate future and years to come, and we are having another Merriman/Ware debate?

Face it guys. We didn't draft Merriman. He will never play for this team. We have a quality player in his stead and there are more important things to discuss...

yes but everytime merriman succeeds it burns a little bit that we did not draft him. and when fans get irritated they vent on message boards. hence, all the threads.

No, it doesn't. Some of us realize that Ware is better against the run, in coverage and just as dangerous against the pass, but is in a different system and assignment, plus he isn't cheating via steroids.

Some of us....

I'm not trying to take away from merriman - I'm just saying that Ware hasn't had the opportunity to tee off against these people.

Regarding Ware's games - Merriman played the Titans as well. Go check his sack total in that game. The Titans suck, but their line isn't the biggest problem.

And in the Texans game, which has been gone over and over again here - there was no pass rush opportunity. They played the game in max protect and with 3 step drops. The Cards and Raiders play 7 step drops and send the house. They are moronic.

I'm not trying to discredit Merriman. Just pointing out that his numbers have come against the two teams which are easiest to sack in the league, outside of Dallas. Ware has not had that opportunity.

Merriman could have 50 sacks this year, but it still wont change the fact that we didnt draft him. Such crying over spilt milk, can we just get over it already.

Anything he does this year will be suspect, but if he's still a QB sacking machine next year despite all the random testing, that's when I'll concede his superiority. And if he's simply a product of the "system," then why on Earth are we not replicating said system?

no, it will be removed to the NFL zone where it should be
but the thread about him testing positive stayed in this forum forever

you know there must be 300 players in the league that we did not draft that are playing well. lets start a thread for every one of them

or some of you are lying to yourselves. right now merriman is by far the better player. i dare you to find a single football fan not of the cowboys that would say ware is the better player.

Could it be that the Roids had SOMETHING to do with this? Otherwise, there would be absolutely NO POINT in taking them.

The sad thing is all fans across thousands of message boards do these "If only we had drafted..." threads. I don't understand why they think if their team drafted this guy instead of another, he would be just as good on their team.

Lets say we drafted Merriman and San Diego drafted Ware.

Ware would be the one with more sacks...

Anyways this subject is getting old, get over it.

yes the roids might have something to do with it. but i refuse to believe roids make you much better. in baseball maybe because home runs hitters just hit the ball as far and hard as possible. but merriman is so quick to the ball in his decisions...i dont know why im defending merriman, i hate the guy, but i still think hes better than ware despite the roids. roids arent the only reason the guy is a beast otherwise give me some and a contract.

The trick in the draft is not to find a guy who may or may not be slightly better than the guy who is picked directly after it. Its impossible given the inexact science that drafting is.

The trick is to get a guy whose production justifies his draft value.

As long as Ware does, I really don't care what Merriman does or doesn't do. There is no scout, coach or GM in the world that can predict the difference between an 8 sack guy or a 10 sack guy. You just can't break it down to that level.

The constant whining about this is beyond ridiculous. No one can predict with that level of accuracy what each player will do. ALl you can hope for is that your guy is not a bust, and Ware is most assuredly not.

Or if one of them will get nailed for steroids.

I played college football. I saw guys who were weaker and slower than me make huge strides forward and in some cases pass me.

Hell yes they make a difference. Barry Bonds pre steroids and on them. Notice anything different?

I posted this on 9-17-06 and I stand by it. Sure, it's a little harsh, but I was right on the money...

Everyone is down on Ware because he isn't a tattoo covered second-year roid monkey making bold proclamations about being the best linebacker in NFL history. All Merriman has done is show a few flashes against mediocre competition.

So now after one good game every Joe Fan in the sports world thinks Merriman is the next Lawrence Taylor. The fact of the matter is Merriman had many more opportunities that he couldn't capitalize on in Week 1 against the worst team in football. Despite being part of a defense that collectively made a mockery out of the Crypt Keeper's Raiduhs and their 1990's Offense by recording 9 total sacks, he only managed 3. In case you forgot, Ware has done the same thing, against a real team, all while being coached by a man whom many people on this board deem a failure of a Defensive Coordinator in Mike Zimmer.
