His measurables are the same as Justin Tuck and Greg Hardy, both of him played in a Pro Bowl.

I think we generally overvalue 40-yard times and devalue things like Charlton's length. Yet, we had a guy last year in David Irving that showed in spurts what could be done with that kind of size. Imagine if Charlton could provide consistently the same kind of production Irving provided sporadically.

I have spent months studying this draft. Watching film, reading reports and I thought I had it figured out. After Takk went to Atlanta, I told my wife it was down to King or Watt. Felt very confident about it. My wife checked out some website with a best remaining list and told me, "Nope. Its going to be Taco."
I then nicely explained to her that we were looking for a RDE with a good twitch or a large CB with #1 ability. "Nope. This Taco guy. Cool name." I then smiled and kinda shook my head. "Oh, honey."

$%^&*! I am going to be hearing about this for years.

That's false... Ed Reed was drafted in the 20's and Roy Williams was a top 10 pick.

So you are saying your chances of hitting on a stud in the top 10 are the same as picking in the bottom 10? I didn't say it was impossible to hit on a player late in the first, it's just that on draft day they rarely wow you.

unless he turns out to be a whole lot better than anyone thinks Taco is about the best you can do when you are picking at 28.

Part of Brugler's writeup on Taco:

STRENGTHS: Passes the eye test with a moldable NFL frame and long arms…powerful upper body and uses his reach to extend and put blockers on skates…heavy hands to control the edge and quickly reset his eyes to find the ballcarrier…expanded his pass rush diversity as a senior, forcing holding penalties with his combination of upper body violence and lower body agility…initial burst to win gaps and force his way through the shoulder of the offensive tackle…continued effort from snap to whistle, showing sustained hustle in pursuit…endures, doesn’t wear down and can be an every-down player…showed gradual improvement the past four seasons, finishing strong as a senior.

WEAKNESSES: Allows his pad level to rise and can be washed out of the hole…needs to better protect his lower body from cut blocks…unimaginative pass rush sequence with a predictable spin move…needs to improve his reaction time and pursuit angles to take away edge runs…late to read the backfield action, leaving him flat-footed and delayed to the ball – too many examples of him guessing wrong and needs to get better in this area…only one season as a full-time starter and finished with 15 collegiate starts on his résumé – late bloomer and struggled to make an impact his first three seasons in Ann Arbor…missed two games due to an ankle injury (Sept. 2016).

He lacks the burst off the line. That is the difference in 40 times for the big guys.
Yes when only 1 foot that can push off all season I guess I did look slow. Let's see him now he is 100 percent and can use both feet

He wasn't my preference, that's for sure. I saw him strictly as a LDE, and that's one position on the line that Dallas seems to have covered pretty well. However, after listening to several media folks who obviously know more than me, I am somewhat encouraged. Carlton's LinkedIn athleticism means he's probably going to get a chance to play some at RDE as well as LDE. What's more, his size will allow him to shift inside on occasion, and we all know how much Marinelli love guys who can play multiple positions.

I'm still worried about RDE… I think we needed more speed on that side, and that's one thing Charlton does not provide. I guess he will share that position with David Irving, and of course, Irving was moved inside on occasion ( he played very effectively on the inside in 2016). Lawrence now gets to move back to RDE (which is what he was actually drafted to play in the first place). I have a philosophical problem with paying a rotational player first-round money, but I trust Will McClay, Stephen Jones, etc. They have done well at this part of the business the last several years.

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS
Rare combination of size, length and athletic traits as a rusher. Long-levered frame with athletic, knotted calves. Brings freaky athletic traits to table and is still growing into his body. Flashes instant reaction time off snap and up the field thanks to his twitch. Has enough upfield juice to push offensive tackles into hasty retreat. Generates pop through speed-to-power element. Very good flexibility throughout. Able to sink and swerve around corner if he gets early lead in race to the edge. Possesses hip swivel combined with shoulder turn to slip and flip around the corner of an offensive tackle he's engaged with as a pass rusher. Rushes with forward lean that keeps his momentum downhill.

This is his draft profile. This says you have absolutely no clue on what youre talking about. This says the guy has the quick twitch the team is looking for. What i think is his size, stride and length have more to do with his 40. You can see it on video. The guy is usually right off the snap of the ball. Dont worry you cant always be right...like me lol

I love everything about this story! It actually just made the Taco pick mostly worth it for me.

The more I think about it...It's not the worst pick. It gives you choices....flexibility. I think we move him around. Seems like that's what we do anymore.
Think he will compete with Tapper to start on the right side. Which i think he wins. And Mayowa comes in on 3rd down.
