===============
It's a huge day on the pro-day calendar, as Sam Darnold is set to throw for NFL teams. The Georgia pro day is complete, and USC's is about to get underway. Here are a few notes from yesterday.

The big news from Florida State's pro day Tuesday was Derwin James not doing position drills, which irked a few people.

On the other hand, pass rusher Josh Sweat continues to impress. Sweat clocked anywhere from 6.88 to 6.95 in the three-cone and looked good in both defensive line and linebacker drills. The linebacker drills were run by the Baltimore Ravens.

The Cincinnati Bengals, Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets all had coaches on hand to watch Sweat, who will be working out for the San Francisco 49ers later this week.

After the workout, Sweat interviewed with the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Bucs, who sent their general managers.

Workout/Visits

Arizona State linebacker Christian Sam, who timed as fast as 4.69 at his pro day last week -- an improvement from his combine mark of 4.75 -- is working out for the Houston Texans today. Sam also had dinner with the team last night.

After a very full schedule at NC State's pro day,Nyheim Hines of North Carolina State worked out for the Tampa Bay Bucs yesterday and will be working out for the Tennessee Titans, New Orleans Saintsand Dallas Cowboys next week.

Staying with the Dallas Cowboys, we initially reported Boise State linebacker Leighton Vander Esch as being a target for the team during our Senior Bowl coverage. The junior is set to work out for Dallas next week and will be making an official predraft visit to see the Cowboys.

Central Michigan pass rusher Joe Ostman, who crushed his pro-day workout, is on an official visit to see the Los Angeles Rams today.

I still think we should plow resources into our edge players............. Sweat was a guy I had my eye on but he seems to be rising up draft boards. I saw one mock that had him creep into the end of the first round.

I don't understand why there isn't more clamoring for Harold Landry. The guy is a legit RE speed pass rusher this team and fans have been looking for. You add him to RE in a rotation, Lawrence at LE, prep Taco to take on that 3 tech you have a formidable DL for years to come.

IMO Landry is being overlooked right now, but I wonder if he last come draft day but if he does IMO he is someone I don't know if we pass up on.

Because they just took a DE in the first round last year and just franchised their other DE. Fans aren't even looking at the position early. Nobody's looking at Taco as a future 3 tech.

But generally, I agree. He's being overlooked. He could easily prove to be a better 4-3 end in the NFL than Marcus Davenport. He can also play the 3-4 rush LB role too.

Philly has Graham, Bennett, Long and Barnett at DE.

If our fans think we are OK at DE because we have Lawrence and The Mexican Treat at DE, they are being silly.

I'd have no issue at all taking Landry at 19 if the Cowboys believe he could be a legit edge player in the league.

So?

Get edge talent anyway you can. I'd rather see them take Landry at 19 than another OL or a WR.

Oh, I thought you wanted a serious discussion.

So what you're saying is we should follow the Eagles' model by not doing what they did and burn another high draft pick on DE depth? Good to know.

How about a trade up for Derwin James, because I have a feeling that's in the cards. Real glad we beat Philly that last week. Really helped Garrett and screwed us

No, what I am saying is that we have one DE that can rush the passer consistently and finished the 2017 season as a middle of the pack pass rushing team.

But sure, let's just roll with the DEs we have. I am sure it will turn out swimmingly.

PS - Technically, the Eagles did invest a lot in DE. They drafted Barnett last year with a Top 15 pick when they already had both Brandon Graham and Vinny Curry carrying fairly large contracts.

dpth is always good but Lawerence and Irving together made a huge difference..having them both makes us better and we got them back.. just because Irving isn't a true DE , hes pressure guy, sack guy, and he also bats a lot of balls down..its like having a DE but wreaks havoc up the middle which in turn pushes sacks to the outside guys..Taco hopefully improves Tapper is serviceable and yes i know we cant count on him but Gregory is attempting a comeback..its not a priority at 19 and that's great..if a great DE falls to us a a LB/DT/S isn't there than we take the DE IF hes truly next on our board, stay true to the board..no reaching..the great thing is, or not is, we have a lot of holes to fill but none are out of desperation so we can truly take THE best player at most any position and it fills a need without reaching..

What do you think about Josh Sweat at #50?

The Eagles did not pay top 5 money to a DE, as well as use two first round picks for two more DEs which is what you're suggesting.

You might have noticed Curry's not on the team anymore.

Curry isn't on the team now because adding Bennett made him expendable and they needed the cap space.

But Curry was on the team making Top 10 DE money along with Graham when they still used the 14th pick on a DE, to essentially be a back up and pass rush specialist for at least a year.

They added Bennett cheaply. They added Curry cheaply. They added Long cheaply. You're suggesting burning another first round pick on a DE to have the most expensive rotation in the league.

Curry was not making top 10 money. He was about to make big money when the Eagles decided they couldn't justify that much of an investment with Graham and Barnett already on the books.

I can't believe I have to actually rationalize why a team wouldn't want to add another 1st round pick salary to a DE position they are already paying a franchise tag player and a 1st round pick from last year.
