2024-25 NBA Season Thread

Been watching all the “Regrade the Draft” videos on YouTube and my boy Stephon Castle keeps climbing. Reminds me of another rookie guard Tony Parker who didn’t have killer stats his rookie year but you knew you were watching something special. Claimed the starting role and never looked back. Going to be fun watching him and Wemby grow together. Hopefully no one has a ‘hanger on family’ like Kawhi Leonard!

Warriors are such a low IQ team. Undiscipline would also fit their bill. And there's more.

Good watch. Don’t have to be just a Spurs Fan. Didn’t realize Parker was a mentor for CP3.

I hate intentional fouls when a team is up by 3 late in the game
I get the strategy, but I hate it more than anything and hope one day they make it a technical foul

Last night's game with Spurs against Nuggets was definitely the best of the season. They kept losing the lead but battling back on the recent World Champions. Good stuff! Almost feels like the team grew up.
Love the rejection of Joker by Wemby at the end of the game! :yourock:

Mavs win 2nd in a row as they try to survive the Luka/Kyrie joint absence.
Hard watches to be sure but they are definitely seeing Quentin Grimes develop.

Hope they can split with Denver then beat a down Pels team; but zero wins are guaranteed with the Big 2 out.

I spoke too soon. Blew the next game against the Nuggets and then the freaking Bulls late in the game. They have to find a rotation that works. CP3 doing his best to lead the team in his last years. Wemby is obviously the franchise. They need to give Castle the minutes no matter what rookie mistakes he makes because it won’t happen with Sochan, Johnson, Vassell and all the other youth they’ve given plenty of time to prove their worth. Need a trade that puts the missing pieces together. Sort of in that same situation the 90-91 Cowboys were with an offensive coordinator and Charles Haley trade away from clicking.

Thank you LA and Dallas. Now Sacramento can get the ball rolling on DeAaron Fox to the Spurs and not hold out for unrealistic talent in return. You’re not getting Stephon Castle or the Spurs unprotected draft picks. Deal with it. Give us our option #2. His wife wants to come back home and happy wife = happy life.

lol, not that I care but San Antonio won’t need any protection on picks if they get Fox

it went down exactly like that. Gave up no significant players, and gave up their worst picks. Best pick the Kings got is the 2031 Wolves pick which might be at a time the Wolves are spiraling.

did it?

to be clear I actually was hoping Fox would go to SA just for their to be an additional good team to watch

and if they got him for free...I just wouldn't care after the initial shock

But it seems like they gave up some of the better picks they had to trade

2025
CHA, currently projected to be 4th (only conveys 15-30)
Chi, currently projected to be 9th
ATL, currently projected to be 10th
Their own, currently projected to be 11th

2026
Own or ATL swap (no protection)
Chicago (9-30)

2027
Own
ATL (no protection)
Chicago (9-30 if not settled)

2028
Own or BOS (2-30 protected)

2029
Own

The CHA pick was included and it's not worth much...just won't convey. Will be a 2026 second which is okay

Chicago was the next most valuable and they got that pick back

ATL is at least going to be in the play in tournament...I guess you're banking on 2026 or 2027 for them to be bad but imo they'll make the play in tournament consistently unless they trade Trae

But great job holding onto Castle...I don't think he was ever going to be included, but good for them not panicking and including him

The CHA wasn't a real first round because it was top 14 protected (will turn to 2nd round picks) and the CHA are bad and the Bulls Pick was top 10 and the Bulls were going to shop LaVine no matter to truly restart the tank. They probably would have kept the 2025 pick anyways but now that pick doesn't turn into a 2026 unprotected pick. So they really only gave up their 2027 pick which probably be a top 20 and a 2031 Wolves pick which might actually be pretty good.

They kept all their ATL pick (which Atlanta is spiralling right now having lost 8 in a row after suffering some injuries) and all their younger players.

It was a pretty good fleecing by the Spurs

Shut up lmao

Brian Wright, Spurs GM, showing Nico Harrison how to make a deal. Spurs traded players out of the rotation or with limited playing time and traded picks unlikely to convey or limited value. Great deal for the Spurs, A+ deal!

https://www.hoopsrumors.com/2024/07/nba-players-who-can-veto-trades-in-2024-25.html

No-trade clauses are rare in the NBA, since a player must meet a specific set of criteria in order to qualify for one. And even those players who become eligible may not have the leverage to demand a no-trade clause, which significantly limits a team’s flexibility in future trade negotiations.

To be eligible to negotiate a no-trade clause, a player must have at least eight years of NBA experience and has to have spent at least four years (not necessarily the most recent four years) with his current team. He also must be signing a free agent contract, rather than an extension.

Great trade!! None of those draft picks were going to be much. Boy, can’t believe the Spurs didn’t have to give up anyone really. Train robbery!

Go Spurs Go!

They could still trare Vassell, Sohan or Keldon Johnson for even more talent! Don’t need all of them now with Fox and Castle in the future lineup.

Charlotte and Chicago were protected picks so we didn’t lose anything. Spurs will be titled contenders in 2027 with Wemby, Fox and Castle and still probably going to add more So don’t need that draft pick. The Minnesota draft pick is unprotected, but that’s so far in the future who knows. Still have some good players available and we could add another talented big man. The unprotected Atlanta picks are probably the most valuable and they didn’t lose any of them. Hawks are tanking, 8 losses in a row and counting!

I think I misread the initial post

the poster said SAC was getting SAS unprotected picks and I assume he meant the spurs own unprotected picks, which is why I laughed at the notion that those would be assets worth holding onto.

ATL I get keeping those, but in the east I do think ATL will be fine

As a Dubs not a big fan of the move for Butler, especially at the cost of 2-years/$121M for a 35-year old player.

Even worse, was hearing we pivoted after failing to complete a trade for Durant.

Butler doesn’t really move the needle.
