2nd round pick

we can agree or disagree on taco being spicy taco or soft taco.
however, i would have felt a lot better if we took another DE in the 2nd instead of the DB.
e.g. willis, rivers, basham were all available.

i know they were short on DBs.
but adding a DE with more speed and agility would sure be nice.
If there was a DE with more speed and agility, we would have probably picked him in the first round.

Is it just me or what ? it just seems that we are always in need of DBs.

It's not just you but get used to it. Statistically defenders get hurt more than offensive players and no position group gets injured more than CB.

Compounding that is you need 4 competent ones to function on any particular gameday. 3 to run nickel and 1 to back them up and play dime. Having 5 on your roster is good depth while 4 is adequate.

What you talkin bout Willis!?!

The Cowboy picked at 28, 60, 92 and 133.

Awuzie was their highest rated player on the board at #60.

Forcing a pick either by not taking BPA OR by trading up is generally not the best draft strategy. Basham and Rivers almost fell to #92 and I think they are likely better than Smoot, Willis and Hall. Tim Williams might have been off their board altogether. The options just were not that great for DEs at #60. It would have been interesting if Rivers was available at 92; although, I think they might have still taken Lewis there.

i have not seen any draft board info.
we do not know how the other teams were drafting by need and/or bpa.
we could also have traded up from 92 when we saw the DEs going off the board in the 3rd round by adding a 4th.
we could have replaced the 4th with trades from 2018 - where there were ~10 picks?
the number of players we would let go in 2018 is probably less than 10.

waldo is intent to rue Taco's pick every way he can think of.

actually u r the one who is biased.
i have posted both positive and negative things.
my post comparing taco with bosa was so positive that one poster complained "Bosa was a much better prospect no matter how many times fans post that their measureables were the same. 1000 RBs have had better measureables than Emmitt Smith, few have even approached his greatness."

The issue is that they already had Taco at that point and they have Tapper from last year. They'll want to pair them with a couple of veterans in the rotation which would likely make the 3rd round DE an inactive player on game day.

It will be easier to fit another young DE on the roster next year when Taco and Tapper have some experience and DLaw likely leaves in free agency. Crawford could be a cap casualty, but can't be cut this season due to a guaranteed salary.

If there had a been a DE in the mid 3rd that was highly rated on the Cowboys board, then they either would have traded up or you likely would have heard that they tried to trade up. Instead, after the draft Stephen mentioned that players they liked in that mid-round area were WRs and Safeties.

B-b-b-b-b-b-but we should have drafted Rivers, Basham, or Willis in the second round!

I never said that you could not see any good in Taco. That doesn't change your overall conclusion that we should have done better at the position one whit.

First it was we should have traded up. Now it's we should have drafted more. I am curious what you are going to cook up next out of your fixation. Trade down perhaps.

That is it! We could have traded down and picked him anyway because of course he would still be there and THEN picked another DE with the extra pick!

this is what you said "waldo is intent to rue Taco's pick every way he can think of."
i have said good stuff and i have said bad stuff.
i have been actually trying hard to find everything good about Taco, and something elite about him.
when xwalker offered the 1.63 10 yard split time, i was quite happy.
that would be something elite.
however, others have said pro day numbers are usually better than combine numbers.
so i am back at the bad phase.

certainty i am 'guilty' of wanting more in the DL.
and that hardly makes me alone.
trade down does not work, i considered it.
while fixing the DBs is important, i regard it as more like treating the symptom like a bandaid to get a little bettter.
whereas fixing the DL is more like fixing the root cause for a championship IMO.
of course the DB did not have to be that broken but we know where that is going.
just my opinion.

i think at least 2 of the mid-3rd DEs were from the list of 30.
probably basham and hall, but definitely willis
not sure about rivers

lets hope tapper's back allows him to play like before.
lets hope all the fluffy comments about tapper is not just damage control

Is you looking for every way to rue the pick mutually exclusive with recognizing his 10 yard split?

He showed you the split and you just changed from wanting to trade up to instead wanting to use more picks.

Tapper said that his back problems were from a lack of core conditioning which allowed his abnormality to affect him. He also said that has been his focus to correct this offseason and it has gone well.

you dont seem to get it.
for me, it is not about ruing taco, it is about wanting a better DL.
i could not care if we get it by trading up, trading down, drafting 5, signing 3 FA or hiring cheerleaders that distract their opposition's OL
i will regret the draft pick if he bombs.
though i hope that you can give me crap for freaking out over the pick 6 months from now.
