Yhea, I was thinking the same thing. Doesn't seem as if Denver got much. I guess they really wanted to unload Scheffler and get something.

Everything else I read about Scheffler is that the Broncos were trying to pry a fourth from Cincinnati for him over the weekend. I guess not.

Well, one good thing is that the Martellus Bennett to Cincinnati deal can still take place. :)

Is it wrong that I wouldn't mind it happening?

Hopefully it doesn't involve the Eagles robbing them both again.
Yes, but I thought the Eagles ripped off the Rams for Witherspoon and they ended up just letting him go after less than a full season.

Honestly, if I were the Eagles, with the choices they had to spare, I would have kept them all instead of trading for an injury risk with Sims. He has been beaten up often as a pro and I even recall back when he was drafted that he had some concussion issues.

Not in the least.

It would make my weekend to get that buffoon off the team.

I hate when other teams make trades. The only thing I ever see are over reactions.

"Why can't we get deals like that?"

"Yet we do nothing. We must be good."

"We'd have given a 1st and a 3rd and a 5th for him."

Pass the Kleenex. I gotta join the pity party or get run over by it. Maybe the sky will fall.

Wow, in 2006 the Broncos drafted:

- Jay Cutler
- Brandon Marshall
- Tony Scheffler

All three Pro Bowl caliber players, all three gone. How pissed are you if you're a Broncos fan right now?

Eventually McDaniels hopes to have the entire building to himself.

Well, that's the year they got Dumervil in the forth too, probably the best player in that draft for them. He wants and more than deserves a new contract, I can't help but think that he's next.

I think Detroit got Scheffler from Denver, dealth Sims to eagles and eagles gave a 5th to denver and 7th to Detroit. In essence Detroit got a 7th and scheffler for sims, denver got a 5th for scheffler and eagles get Sims for a 5th and 7th. what a steal by the Eagles.

they have done well in getting trades and picks this off season. sims fits their defense really well.

this sucks.

Why cant we get a good defensive player for a 5th round pick?

Good move for Eagles, IDU why they want a TE when they got B.Pettigrew,
maybe they are copying the cowboys with two TE formations.

They tried it often last year. Sadly, I had to sit through every single Lions game last year.

A lot of teams are doing it since the fullback position is quickly becoming obsolete. Most offenses are geared more towards the pass and need better receivers than blockers for the most part. If you are running a west coast Coryell type offense, you need two or even three "tight ends" (blocker, receiver and combination).

Absolutely, and that's exactly what I think the Lions are trying to accomplish with this trade. Pettigrew is an amazing prospect as far as blocking is concerned, and although he possesses the ability to be a good pass catcher, I think he's far more comfortable with the blocking role. Scheffler has always been looked upon as being a very good pass catcher, but a very lazy blocker.

TE is also becoming the new RB. They are being used in the passing game now more than ever and that increases the likelihood of injury. You almost have to have two capable TE's in today's NFL.

What we learned from the Tony Scheffler trade
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 19, 2010 12:31 PM ET
We gave you the details on the three-way trade that sent Tony Scheffler to Denver and Ernie Sims to Detroit. Now let's try to figure out what it all means.

1. The Lions were really down on Ernie Sims. The Florida State product once looked like a future Pro Bowler, but he struggled with injuries last year. There is concern he will never hold up in run support, and his play began to decline in 2008. They weren't going to give him a long-term deal.

2. The Eagles have a lot of questions at linebacker and not much depth, as we pointed out in our team needs recap. Adding Sims for a fifth-round pick was a low-risk move and fits what the Eagles do.

3. The Lions may have some concerns about tight end Brandon Pettigrew's recovery from ACL surgery. More likely, the Lions were intrigued by Scheffler's ability to take over games and create mismatch problems.

The Broncos didn't love Scheffler's work habits, but he now gives Matthew Stafford another weapon on an offense that needs them. Scheffler and Pettigrew may be the most intriguing young tight end combination in the league.

4. Denver did fine in the Brandon Marshall. Not so much here.

5. The Bengals must not have wanted Scheffler, because they had two fourth-round picks.

6. Denver's first three picks from their famed '06 draft class are all ex-Broncos. (Jay Cutler, Scheffler, Brandon Marshall.) Elvis Dumervil: watch your back.

For what it's worth, Pro Football Focus rated Sims very poorly in 2008 and 2009 -- he was DEAD LAST among 4-3 outside linebackers both seasons. In 2008, he was even dead last by a huge margin.
