They gave up a 5th rd pick for a scrub LB. The guy may have been released anyway. He's been the picture of mediocrity.

Roy Williams was never mediocre in Detroit. Alot of teams would have given up quite a bit to trade for the guy. Nobody was going to give up much for Sims.

Again the position you've taken is comical. I dont even know why your comparing the two, they are totally different situations.
Nobody in their right minds would have given up what we gave up for Roy Williams. The guy wasn't overly impressive in Detroit, but the excuse that he was on a bad team seemed valid at the time. Now, it's pretty clear that he's just not a very good player. The point is that it's funny how critical we are with other teams, our trade busts are every bit as comical; and we give up far more for our busts.

And you know this how exactly? Did you call all 30 other teams or call the Lions to check and see what was offered? These kinds of statements, when there is absolutely no proof anywhere are absolutely comical. You have no idea what was offered.

You realize how long he was on the market don't you kid? We have better homers than any team in the NFL.

Jason Witten says, "Come get some."

Ernie Sims posed little threat to Jason Witten last time he played Cowboys

Gerry Fraley made note of Philadelphia's trade for Detroit linebacker Ernie Sims earlier today. In a division with Kevin Boss, Chris Cooley and Jason Witten, defenses have to be able to cover tight ends and the Eagles have struggled in that department.

Especially against Witten.

In 13 games against the Eagles, Witten has 76 catches for 911 yards and four touchdowns. He has had three 100-yard games against Philadelphia.

Now Philly will look to Sims at least some in 2010 to contain Witten.

Hopefully the Eagles do not look at the film the last time Sims had at least some responsibility on Witten. It came in 2007 at Ford Field with Sims a starter for the Lions. All Witten did was catch 15 passes for 138 yards, at the time career highs, and bring down the game-winning touchdown pass with 18 seconds to play in the Cowboys' NFC East-clinching win against the Lions.

A quick scan of the boxscore had Sims bringing down Witten six times after catches. Now, he was credited with forcing a fumble at the goal-line in the fourth quarter on Witten, but he appeared to struggle on the winning TD pass.

If you would like to have a video review of Witten's day that afternoon, click here.

He wasnt a below average player when we traded for him.

He's had two subpar years here, but he was not a below average player when we got him.

There isnt a team in football that would have called Ernie Smis a better, or even equal player to Roy Williams. It's laughable to even suggest it.

He was average.

I remember that game. If Sims covers like he did in that game I'll be very happy.

I never read anything in player ratings posted that called him "average"

I am also quite sure that 90%+ of this forum thought it was a great move at the time, and MANY wanted something like that trade to happen for a good year or so before it did happen.

Funny, most of the people in Dallas were dubbing Roy Williams as the second coming as soon as we acquired him. Hell, the guy has turned in two pathetic years in Dallas and people are still standing behind the guy. Add to that the fact that we gave up FAR MORE to acquire the waste of oxygen. I think the Eagles did a damn good job getting Sims for a fifth.

Yes, the Lions took us...but this thread isn't about the Roy Williams trade.

This thread is about the Eagles picking up an average and injury prone player. Hype the Eagles all you want, this trade does not improve their situation...

Many, including myself, were psyched because of his supposed potential.
And what he did in 2006

He missed five games in four years. I'd hardly call that injury prone. I think you are being shortsighted because of the uniform he'll be wearing. He will upgrade their linebackers. The Eagles linebackers are notoriously horrible. It was a good trade for only a fifth, and it pains me to say that.

Well......he had a hard time staying on the field in Detroit and that's a fact. I live in Michigan and the guy is VERY undersized. Great motor, heart, and a sound competitor but you just run right at him. He's a complete liability on running plays. He has a serious history of concussions and won't successfully complete the season IMO. NOT WORRIED.

PS: as others have mentioned JWit ABUSED him last time we played the Lions....this guy isn't very good : period.

Guys.... this is actually good.

I'd rather see Philly spend a 5th on an oft injured, underperforming LBer than actually draft one that could pan out.
